I am proud of local "Petland"!!!

Today, my little girl client wanted to go see the puppies. OK, so off we went to Petland near her house. We walked in, and went toward the puppy glass cages, and there were something different about them..... Yes, all of the cages were filled with dogs/puppies.....But.... All of the dogs and puppies in the cages were from 3 ~4 different local shelters!!!! Each puppies/dog had a tag showing which shelter he/she belonged to and few descriptions of them. They also indicated informations in regard to the vetting that were done on them. One of the worker told us that this particular Petland no longer sells puppies and dogs from "Breeders", and only assist on adoptions. I was sooo excited!!!

The best part was that, there was a beautiful goldendoodle roaming in the store, and the worker told me that he belongs to the store owner!!!! Doodle owner rocks!!!!

I am thrilled to hear this! In Canada BC has decided to outlaw the sale of puppies in pet stores!! A big win and a great help to shelters. Put puppies in malls where people see them as the trip to the shelter is out of the regular daily routine yet is always on the list. Then out of convenience people who are ignorant end up buying at the pet store at the mall as that is where the kids run to each visit and fall in love with that one! I hope Ontario follows through with that law as well. That would dent the need for puppy mills so may rid us of a few!

This is such a great idea. This is the way it should be happening.

That's great! All of the PetSmarts in my area do this. That's how I got my cat. They have special blitz days where they have all big promotins and sales in the store and try to draw customers in to adopt a pet from the shelter.

If ALL of the Petland and other pet stores did the same, we can be one step closer to closing the mills!

This was exactly what needed to happen. There were a couple who were adopting a little lab/pit mix looking puppy, and they were just as happy as they can be.  They were getting a cute puppy, did not have to pay hundreds of dollars for, felt great about helping and doing the good deed. The store made money by selling the items the puppy needed.
