Today I started watching a six week old baby, a friend of mines baby. I was pretty nervous about how Jack would be with the baby since he likes to be the center of attention. I didn't have a lot of time to research them meeting each other because it was kind of last minute.
So I brought the baby home, Jack was so excited. He was hyper actually, so I put him in a down stay for a few minutes. He wanted to see the baby, I let him smell the infant seat, and then the baby. ( The mom was totally fine with Jack touching the baby) I personally would not have been but she grew up with dogs and knows Jack well)
Jack immediately wanted to lick the baby, I let him a few times, and washed his arm right off. After that we all went for a walk, I put the baby in the carrier that you attach to your body, I didn't want the baby on the same level as the dog just yet. Jack walked along like a pain in the butt pulling me, but anyway we did okay.
After that, Jack sat and watched the baby in the swing, he really wanted to lick the formula off the baby as he drooled, I didn't let him.. I did let Jack on my lap the same time as the baby, but he was so gentle,
The rest of the day went very smooth, when ever the baby would cry, Jack would come running from the other side of the house and look at the baby, then come and get me. He would come and give me the "stare"
The only thing I did see was when I was holding the baby, Jack would follow us everywhere I walked with him and a few times he tried to jump in my arms. He was jealous I think, I tried to reassure Jack and give him treats when he behaved well.
Other then that, when the baby laid on the floor for tummy time, Jack laid right next to him. I would not leave him alone with the baby, but he was very gentle the whole time and he didn't show any signs of domination to the baby at all.
Yippie Jack!!!
