If being a mother means putting your "child" first, giving the best you have to them and going without yourself. If it means you do for them even if you are tired, sick, run down, too busy or flat out exhausted. If it means when they are real little you take them potty every twenty minutes, if it means you celebrate each landmark they make, such as sit, stay, walk, heel, (or crawl, walk) whatever, If it means worrying over making the right decision, worrying about not worrying enough, worrying that you are over protective, underprotective. If it means having to discipline their very cute faces when they disobey or if it means cleaning up poop, dingle berries, dirty faces and the like, Then I too, am a mother.
No, it is not the same as giving birth to a child, I will never know that feeling, but many mothers don't they adopt. Is it equal to a human child, NO, I didn't say it was, I said if those things make you a mother, a caretaker, then I am one of them.
Today, I went to a party, it was a graduation party, I had a lot of fun, They gave out flowers to all the human mommies for mothers day, and suddenly I started to get a tinge of hey I am a mom, Just ask Jack Daniels who his mom is, he will tell you. I didn't say anything because two and half years ago, if you would have told me someone who had a dog, could or would make them a mother, I would have rolled my eyes and told that person to get a life, Okay I would not have told them that, but I would have thought that.
Life is what you make it, it is how you look at things. I was thinking as I was driving home, I felt slighted, it isn't my fault I can't have children, no one on this planet loves kids more then me, why the heck can't I get a flower??? Dang it.. Then as immediately as I thought that thought I thought of my friend Jenny, who lost her husband three years ago, and then one year ago today, her only child who was 16 years old. I immediately went to the store and I bought her flowers and left them on her doorstep.
The bigger picture is, it doesn't matter what people say or think, what title you have, it matters the love and kindness you have in your heart, it matters, that you have someone or something to love and in that department, I am blessed, loved and have a lot of love to give.
So to all of us on Doodle Kisses, who are human parents and or dog parents, Happy Mother's Day. I am grateful for someone that loves me, that looks up to me, and depends on me.
No matter what anyone ever says, I am Jack's mom, the only mom he will ever know, and it just so happens that it is my most favorite title in the whole wide world!!!!
Happy Mother's Day, May we all always feel loved by someone, and may we always have someone or something to love,
Love,
Jacks MOMMY
