Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Im officially doodle crazy..... watch out for the signs - it could happen to you!

I've had dogs before..... big ones, small ones, scruffy ones and gruffy ones.... but never have I joined forums about dogs.

Never before have I spent more time looking for doggie collars and doggie beds than looking for anything for myself. He even has a jumper (for when he gets his hair cut and its cold!).... and a dressing gown (for when he's wet!).

I even have a sweatshirt with my favourite picture of my doodle on it... (not that I wear it outside - coz that would be crazy!)

Today I saw a doodle walk past my house and so Welly and I raced out after it.... just to ask 'is that a Goldendoodle?' even though I already knew the answer.

The calender on my wall is the Goldendoodle 2010 calender.

The other calender on my wall is MY goldendoodle 2010 calender (just Welly pics - I mean who else could be in it!).

The picture on my phone is my doodle.

What is it about a doodle that makes everything else pale into insignificance?

I got an unexpected day off work today and my immediate thought was 'Whoopy... another day to walk with Welly'.

Shoot me.... shoot me now. Lol.

Lesley - I wish you could hear how hard I'm cracking up right now. You just described me! My friends all make fun of me because I have a MILLION pictures of Callie on my phone (one friend informed me that I have more pictures of my dog than she has of her daughter. My response "your daughter isn't a furry muppet"). Carry a bag with her supplies in it (my friends call it Callie's diaper bag). I schedule play dates for her, feed her better than I feed myself, and end up getting lots of good exercise because it's good for my DOODLE! Enjoy Wellington to the fullest extent of your heart! You're in good company here on DK.

Well we are so lucky to have Doodle Kisses, we would all be locked up in an asylum by our friends and families...I also cannot go past a pet store or any store that has dog stuff without going in and buying something for Oliver, I too love when people gush over him, and yes I too get insulted if they don't look at him when we walk...I figure it is their loss, lol,,,I must get some doodle clothes, lol, and yes I will wear them outside. DH is just as crazy as I am, he just hides it, but he sits with Ollie at his side and he holds his paw, just like you would hold a childs hand...And he talks to him like a child, lol. These are magical creatures these doodles, they come sand steal your heart, and u are a goner from then on....

Jane you are so funny - and completely right! On the nail!

Im falling into the ' I've GOT to have second doodle phase'. Just managing to resist at this point as I fear it could just be 'double trouble' but with a friend who has Labradoodle pups just down the road from me it's soooooo hard resisting (theya are just 2 weeks old). Must be strong.....

I am a doodle nut too. Such a nut when I see another doodle on the street, I yell out the window "hello doodle" in a strange voice. My husband tells me I have lost it, but I tend to think he is also doodle crazy. My dad told him on Easter "if you love your future kids half as much as you love Peri, you will be the best dad on earth". How funny is that???
I just want to squeeze Peri I love her sooooo.....

There is magic in the air when doodles are present!

Oh, I forgot all about the toys. Yes, they must have toys...fun toys, educational and interactive toys, nothing but the best toys. I think we are all major stockholders in the dog toy companies. We even make our own toys when we can't find exactly what we want at the store. Of course they eat them, so we have to run out and buy more...but we don't mind at all. They're just Doodles being Doodles. It's toys, and bones, and antlers. Sure those antlers are expensive, but our Doodles REALLY NEED THEM.

Doodles are very, very talented. They were born knowing exactly how to get their humans to do ANYTHING they want, and they enjoy wrapping us right around their "little paws". There's something in this mysterious gene combination that produces puppies who are born knowing how to cast a spell over their humans. It starts out with this amazing "cuteness". Then they move right on to offering "Doodle Kisses" so sweetly and freely that we learn to depend on those kisses...we become DK dependent. Once they know that we are totally dependent, they start with the demands (oh so discretely). First it's "I don't like this food"..."I want something better"..."What you're eating looks good to me". Then it moves to "if you keep giving me this food, I'll just stop eating at all, and I'll starve". So, we start trying all kinds of foods, anything so our Doods are happy. Sometimes, yes we even resort to drastic measures like "hand feeding" or "home cooking". But, of course we don't mind as long as the Doods are happy. Remember they have us under their spell, so we can't be happy unless they are. We are so "in love" with their cuteness, that we need to take them everywhere. We are over the top when we meet strangers who stop us to admire our Doodles, and if someone doesn't stop and make a comment, we are highly insulted....are they blind...dog haters? Because we need to take them everywhere, we have all kinds of "car" paraphernalia...harness, traveling crates, dogie car seats. Once they have really got us hooked, they move into high gear. They want to play...but not just with their humans, they want furry friends. Here the approach differs among Doodles. Some act sad and depressed and just plain lonely. Others get really "wild and crazy". The end result is the same, and it's exactly what they planned. We need to "socialize them", so it's off the the dog park, or daycare, or organized playgroups (Doodle Romps). We think, "then they'll be happy". Sometimes when they're acting especially good, and sweet, and loving we think....I think it would be really fun to get another Doodle, which quickly turns into "I must have another Doodle right now". That's when they have us completely under their spell...there is no hope for us at that point. Interventions won't work...therapy won't work...only more Doodles will help. So yes, you're now alone in this....there are almost 6000 of us under this spell, and there is no hope for any of us.

Well thats a relief - you could have all said 'yes you are crazy - I think you need to meet more people and leave the dog at home!'. Of course I would never listen to anyone with that view. Luckilly my local pub and cafe are dog friendly which means I can socialise with my friends and not be having seperation pangs about my dog - he gets far more attention in the bar and cafe than I do!

I wonder if it's just a girl thing - or whether men also get soppy over thier doodle?

I like the car idea - Welly would love his own transport!

and Phoebes mom - I also greet Welly, kiss him, SING to him! every time I enter a room where he is.... Crazy.

Its so good to know there are other lovely doodle obsessed people out there =)

Welcome to the club. My DH asked me why I walk past Phoebe and kiss her each and every time I enter/leave a room but do not do that to him, say 'good-bye Phoebe/love you' as I set the alarm to exit the house (even though I just said it when I gave her the treat and put her in her crate), say 'Hi, Baby" as soon as I open the door and shut said alarm. I had no answer for him beyond telling him that I was indeed doodle-crazy!

I know what you mean, I'm doodle crazy too. Not just my own but other peoples too. I work for a kennel and we had about 130 dogs this weekend to care for and I know there are 3 doodles . I know where they are so I can give them some extra attention.=)
