Six weeks after choosing him, I finally brought Indy home this past weekend. A friend and I made the 11 hour drive to Kentucky on Friday. Saturday morning we reached the breeder and I got to meet Indy at last!
Indy is even more adorable and loving than I'd dreamed. He made the twelve hour (with traffic) return drive without any accidents. He started out sitting in my lap on the passenger seat and was having a grand time, but once he decided to fall asleep he was a little too big to sprawl comfortably, so we put him in the blanket-lined laundry basket we'd brought along and put the basket on my lap. He spent the rest of the trip snoozing happily and playing with Humphrey, his pink elephant.
Once we got home, Indy took to city life like a pro, although the elevator freaked him out a bit. I hosted a brunch yesterday so Indy could get to know the friends who will be coming over frequently and he loved everyone he met. He followed me around constantly--it's a bit tricky to avoid stepping on him since he's so small and his coloring actually lets him blend in with my floor.
His breeder got him started on training although he doesn't seem to have absorbed all that much of it. He knows sit if he's paying attention and we're working on adding down as well. He is a lot less food motivated than I expected--even freeze dried liver doesn't get him all that excited! In fact, pretty much the only thing he wants is love and attention, which fortunately he gets in good supply.
The only hiccup has been his crate. He doesn't mind going in, but he cries whenever he can't see me. He was even distraught when I put him in an ex pen with his bed and toys while I went to shower. I know I can't encourage his separation anxiety but it is so hard to resist him!
I guess that's all for now. I'm already head over heels for my little guy. I can't wait to get home and play with him!

Congratulations- how beautiful he is! one of my fondest memories is shower time when Quincy was a puppy. He would lie down on the bath mat to wait for me, but once the shower doors steamed over, and he could not see me, he would howl! I would have to open the shower door once in awhile to let him know "here I am" ! AWW. Sweet puppy days, enjoy your gorgeous new baby!
He is adorable, congratulations!
