DH and I were bored last night, and after looking at that hilarious blog post that was linked to last night, I started wondering if Darwin was "simple minded". I was looking up some tests you could do and decided to try them out on Darwin. These probably aren't legitimate tests... but it was fun anyways.

first, I used my "Darwin come" voice but instead said random words. "Pancake" "Doorknob" etc. He wasn't fooled. Check 1

Second, I put a blanket on him and waited to see how long it took him to get out. This one is a game we play after a bath with a towel so of course he aced it. Easy peasy.

Third, we got 3 cups. I showed him a biscuit, placed it under the middle cup, then put him in a down stay for a minute. When I released him, he automatically went to the middle cup and retrieved the biscuit. Good job! Then we had a lot of fun having him wait outside the room while we pieces of apple under one of the cups, and he'd come in and sniff it out. He caught on pretty quick though and started knocking over the cups with his paw one by one, rather than sniffing them out. Silly pup.

Anyways, he's no dummy. :-) Not that I ever thought that really... but sometimes I wonder... LOL

We will try this. Rosey will definitely get it. Bandit will be eating the cups, but he is still a puppy!!

Yes, he did cock his head. He kind of does this when we practice releasing him from commands. For example, if we put him in a down stay, we will say "good boy" in a high pitched voice, or other random words. He won't move until we say "okay". Okay is his release word.

Did Darwin cock his head when you asked "Pancake" and "Doorknob" ?

Murphy did fine with everything till we got to the cups...Then it was more like Doodle bowling or something..He simply took out ALL the cups as fast as possible to get to the treat.
Could be the diet.

Gavin knocked over the plastic cup, sniffed the treat and took the cup back to his bed to chew on! Note to self: buy some Benny Bullies!

Darwin is such a smartie, especially because he made you think he wasn't that smart.

Which blog post are you referring to? Somehow I must have missed it unless it is the "Find the Fox". I want to test out Gracie but I already know she will pass with flying colors. The things you did last night with Darwin we do all the time. But, I have never used other words than her name when calling her. We also call her "Baby" and she responds pretty well to that too other than when the big "come" has to be said. Then it is "GRACIE"!!!!
