Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok, so this morning I watched an episode of It's Me or the Dog on Animal Planet which featured a woman in Long Beach and her Labradoodle "Jack." The woman used absolutely no discipline and she let her dog run rampant and walk all over her. In one clip the dog jumped out of a sailboat in the ocean and swam back to shore with her trying to chase it, and in another clip it ran out the front door and right in front of a passing car! It is so frustrating to watch shows like this because these dogs are so smart and learn so quickly, and some owners are so ignorant. It made the dog look like a wild animal running frantically around the yard and biting the owner. If she had spent some time training this dog, this would have never happened! I don't like the idea of people getting doodles because they're cute and nice dogs, but they're not willing to put in the time to train them. That's all, I just wanted to vent :).

I think they pick the worst of the worst on that show. Some of the owners are absolutely nutty in my opinion for allowing the dogs to do what they do. I've seen every episode and actually love watching but they do show about every common breed and I bet if it dissuades people from adopting certain breeds. One woman was morbidly obese and her dog was the same. She fed him everything she ate and gave him"treats" like chocolate candy, ice cream and so much junk...constantly. The poor dog could just about breath he was so fat. Many of the owners are really disgusting especially the ones where the dogs are not housebroken and all of them truly have an educational need. I guess that's what keeps us watching. I like Victoria!

That is weird! I couldn't believe she was feeding her cat between the counter and stove, so many of her issues are common sense, like the harness in the car!

LOL Ok so how weird is it that I DVR'd that episode and I am watching it right now! Ok, I have to agree that woman isn't the brightest bulb in the box and the abuse she lets her poor cat take?! Unreal. I think Victoria would have to live there for that woman to ever get it and catch on! LOL Next I am watching the Viewer's Questions episode.

You guys are right, the breed doesn't matter, training can make almost any dog a great well behaved pet. If only everyone felt that way and trained their dogs.... :).

I agree Caitlin. I have met a lot of happy, well socialized Pit Bulls that are absolutely amazing. Darwin loves to play with one named Zion at the daycare he attends. I think with an educated and dedicated owner, they are amazing dogs.

I agree, it's sad when people uneducated about training, and their breed's personality. I feel particularly angry because this is the reason my family hates dogs.

Three of my siblings and my dad have been "attacked" By overly crazy, spastic non-trained dogs. My dad has actually been bitten by a couple of aggressive dogs. I feel like the bad dog owners who let their dogs get out of control can ruin it for all of the good owners and their dogs.

I feel like most dogs have the potential to be a great dog, it is usually a problem with the owner.

Okay, I guess I had to vent too! :-)

I remember that episode also. Like Linda said, the owner wasn't exactly the brightest bulb. Unfortunatly a lot of people are like that with their dogs no matter the breed. But I guess that's why she was on the show!

I saw that one previously, and I felt the exact same way. She really didn't have a clue.

That woman didn't look like the brightest bulb in the box.
