I've heard of a paw bath.... but not this!

Thank you all for the positive feedback on my first blog post. I got such positive feedback that I thought I would try another. I think I mentioned last time that my human mom (Christine) has enrolled me (us) in the AKC Star Puppy class. We had class tonight and it was a lot of fun. When I first started "school" - that is what she calls it - I was a spaz and just wanted to play with everyone. Well, now I wow my mom with my focus while I am in class. I do have a weak spot for my BFF in class Winston - he is cute and about my size.

Things I am learning in school include - sit to be pet, sit/stay, down/stay, give, floppy or settle... this one is weird, she just wants me to lay on my side and do nothing... talk about an easy treat!!!! Something tells me there may be more to this one in the future. We are also working on heel - and today we worked on turning while heeling! My mom is teaching me some things that aren't in class. She taught me a new command to bark, but she says "speak". I caught on really quick, because I like to bark when she is cooking something that smells good, when I want her to play or when I just want attention. She doesn't seem to like it when I bark at her repeatedly, so I was surprised when she taught me to speak. But now.... she'll get me barking and now I have to learn to stop when she says so... it is SOOOO hard. I have only been able to do it a few times... I think I like the sound of my own voice :o) It does seem to make her happy when I get it right, so I will continue to work hard... after all, she does take good care of me.

I've made a few more poor decisions this week - I think it's a phase I am going through. I have finally gotten a taste for the TV remote and grabbed it while my mom was sleeping on the floor. We were lying down together and she feel asleep after a long day at work. I saw the remote up on the couch and now that I am tall, I tried to get it and much to my surprise I did. I chewed on it for a while and then left it alone.... it works just fine, but yes - I did leave teeth marks in it and lots of them. Now it is way out of my reach.... I think I might be seeing a pattern here.

So... now on to the subject of my blog. We've all heard of a paw bath on those days when you get muddy paws, right?!? Well, this morning I got a butt bath - how embarrassing! On our morning walk - something didn't go quite right, and my poop stuck to me. It freaked me out, so I scooted around and sat down and then according to my mom "I was a mess". That's when it happened, we got home and she took me right into the bathroom and did a butt bath! OMG - how embarrassing... I am so glad none of my friends saw this happen. You dood's out there may be wondering then why are your writing about it... in a way, it's a bit theraputic, but more so I want to know if any of you have ever experienced this. I think my mom had to rush and get to work, otherwise I likely would have gotten a full bath. While I wasn't thrilled at the time - I was happy to be cleaned up - my crate would have been really gross! On a more funny note - after drying me off, Mom reached up to disconnect the spray hose and as soon as she did the shower head spit out water! She forgot to turn off the water... she screamed and then kind of froze before turning off the water.... she was SOAKED! It was funny.... really funny! Mom's telling me it's time for bed.... I've gotta go!

Yes, I have had the sanitary cut and just recently a scissor trim by mom! The poop stickage was a one time deal.... but it still freaked me out... and I think Mom too!

Rosco here. I know ALL about butt baths...I've gotten like a hundred hundred of them. I used to get lots when I was little...dunno why? THEN usually momma SHAVES my butt...did she do that to you? It's pretty embarrassing to be all furry and then in your most private spot .. NEKKID!

Don't be embarrassed, Shelby...Alfie knows all about the dread "butt bath" too! He's had to have it twice, but he got it outside with the hose. I try to keep things trimmed shorter under the tail there just in case that problem crops up again. ;-) Way to go with your classes!! The more you learn...the easier it is to learn the NEXT thing...and you sound like one smart cookie!

Dear Shelby,
I gotta tell you my butt bath was worse. It was the first night in my new home and I was kinda nervous and I got poo stuck on my butt. Since I had been at the dog shelter, my fur was kinda long and messy. My new mom noticed the poo and tried to wipe me off, but that didn't work so good. She got my dad to hold my front and my human brother to hold my back end up and she HOSED me with the cold, cold water. It was humiliating! It was cold! I was scared. This was the welcome into my new home! I wiggled and squirmed but I did NOT growl or snap. However, I did make sure that they all got very wet with that cold, cold hose. It was my revenge! I was plotting a quick get-away too, but luckily, I put it off and now I love my family a lot and they love me.

Porter had a butt bath once. It was memorable for all. I thought I got everything, but he sits/plays dead when nervous and I could barely see what I was rinsing.
When I was "done" he got out of the tub and shook his wet sh## all over the bathroom.
Floor to ceiling cleaning, a load of laundry and a shower later...

Shelby - I love reading your blog! We have so many similar experiences! I utterly heart remote controls. I"ve gotten better about not chewing them, but I like to carry one around and leave it at the front door for mommy. I too have been subjected to the humiliation that is the butt bath. I keep telling mom "I'm furry and I poop....what do you expect?" but she insists on keeping that area clean, even if it means i have to have no hair there (some day I'll work up the courage to talk about the impromtu "waxing" that area got). Keep up the awesome blogs Shelby!!
