Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone... it's Shelby! I am 6.5 months old and have decided to take matters into my own paws and submit a journal entry. My human (Christine) has been spending plenty of time on DoodleKisses, but hasn't written a blog in a long time. It's not that she didn't have anything to share... she just didn't know if it was blog worthy (would people want to read it). I know you would want to read a blog post if I authored it... so here it goes!

The past 2 weeks have been a bit crazy - Christine's schedule has been unpredictable... I never knew when to expect her. It was a very busy time for her at work, but now it is summer and she seems more relaxed and things are back to normal. It's getting hot here it Texas and while I don't like the heat... all the humans in our neighborhood have started turning on the fun water sprayers. Christine says they are called sprinklers. I don't know why, but Ican't help myself... when I walk by them, I get really excited and want to play in the water... Christine is nice and usually lets me play in them for a bit and cool down... that makes me one happy doodle!

We are back in puppy/human school. We are taking the AKC Star Puppy Class. I am the new kid at school... the other 3 dogs in our class went to kindergarten together. They are nice though and we became friends the first day. We have a new teacher and she let us try a few things on the agility course... boy was that fun. Christine was supposed to lure me across a raised board to get me to walk across. Well, I showed them... I just pranced across... I didn't need to be lured... but I did get a yummy peanut butter treat at the end.

Also - I have a new puppy friend... Malu. He came from the same breeder I did, but he has different parents and is a couple of months younger than I am. We have had 5 or 6 playdates and they are so much fun! Wednesday after our play date - We walked Malu and Minga (his human) half of the way home... we live less than 1 mile from one another... isn't that cool?

I've been trying to supplement my own diet while on walks... and Christine doesn't like that - she always takes the yummy treat away. In particular I like frogs and snakes - dead ones. I've seen some live ones, but she is quick to take me in a different direction. While walking my friend Malu home - we came across the biggest snake we've ever seen on a walk, it was about 3 feet long.... Christine jumped, but then took a closer look to see if it was a dangerous snake (it was not) and I was much more interested in my friend Malu - so I just kept away like a good doodle should. I was not in danger... Minga held my leash!

The last month or so the burrs have come out in Texas and while I don't mind them much - Christine is constantly picking/combing/brushing them out of my fur. Last night on our walk, I met two basset hounds and got really excited and was rolling around. When we got home - we discovered I was covered in burrs... Christine said she's gotten at least 200 off of me and there are still a few more to go, but I don't sit still while being brushed, so it's taking a while to get them all out. By the end of today - I should be burr free. I hope the burrs go away soon!

My puppy impulses got the best of me the other day... and while Christine wasn't thrilled with my decision... I think I made her laugh a little bit and then she began cleaning up. The photo below explains it all... and now the TP is way far back on the bathroom counter... I guess I let it slip that I am getting taller.

I've got to go... She's getting ready to run errands, and I get to go! PetSmart, Home Depot and Sonic (they give me a treat)... fun!!! I hope you enjoyed my first blog post!

I'm just finally catching up to old blog posts...let me say that you, Shelby, are an expert blogger! You are welcome to blog anytime.

As to sprinklers...I'm so glad you like them. When Thule was around, she LOVED to stick her face in them and try to drink the fast moving water. Rosco...well...he would eventually play in them. But he was a bit of a scaredy cat with sprinklers that weren't in our yard. Even on hot days when I was sure he was dying of heat...I could not get him near one. He didn't know the refreshment he was missing!

You are a brave doodle to not be afraid of those snakes! Eeek. I would def need to have you with me for protection if I ever came to Texas! Enjoy the TP while you can...once you turn into a grown up doodle...they cut you less slack on such things!

Hi Shelby,
So fun to read about all your adventures! Alfie agrees about the agility equipment -- we got to play on some recently and he just thought it was a doodle playground. Looking forward to hearing more later! :-)

Shelby - you are a lucky doodle. I also like to supplement my diet on walks - worms and dead lizards are my favorite - yum! And you are lucky you live in Texas. My mom's sister, Aunt Kristin, just moved to Dallas and mom has been very sad lately. I just give her licks. Have fun with Malu. Luv, Lady Peri

Hi Shelby - thanks for the post! I had NO idea how much fun TP could be so I'm going to try it out as soon as I can. My human, Frannie, is in Christine's camp on the burrs. I don't see what the big deal is. They are SO much easier to get out in the spring when they are fresh and green. Just wait until fall when they are dried and stick in our fur soooooo much better. My mommy had to cut some out last year! Shelbs - please keep up the great updates! Lots of doodle love, Callie

I really enjoyed reading your blog post, Shelby! You kind of remind me of myself...isn't that silly! I was really "into" TP also when I was just a baby, but now that I have turned one, I have lost interest, but anything in a wastebasket is still fair game. Paper shredding definitely amuses me. I'll look forward to following your antics in your next post. Lots of licks from Chewie.

Shelby, great first post. I know what you mean about the TP. Mom and Dad has put the TP way up high so I can't get to it. Harlow.

Quincy says keep on blogging because he and his mom love to read them. Isn't that TP the most fun. I try to play with it every chance I get. I don't know what the problem is but there never seems to be any on the roll anymore.

Ned... believe me, the door would be closed - but there is something wrong and the door doesn't latch quite right. While it looks closed... I can push it open - it didn't take me long at all to figure that out. :o)

Great job on your first blog, Shelby! My mom said that I'm lucky there aren't any big snakes around here, or I wouldn't get to go on any walks! I think you, Malu, & your moms must be very brave!
Love,
Jackdoodle
