Today I found out just what Banjo's made of. Just as I'd suspected...he's completely "opportunistic". This morning I took him out to the backyard to play in the snow. After a good 30 minutes of tossing snowballs for him we headed for the back door. I didn't have a leash on him and so I held his collar and started on to the ice slicked patio to the door. Well, as you've probably already guessed...I took a header, hitting my head, shoulder and knee. There I am sprawled out in pain and all I could think of was I've got to get the door open and usher him inside before he takes off. I managed to reach up and open the door with my good hand and luckily Banjo went willingly inside at which point I slithered over the threshold, closing the door behind me.
Safely inside, now I could succumb to the pain. I couldn't help but moan and cry, all the while wondering if my arm was broken and my knee shattered.....surely they must be for it to hurt this badly. While all of this was going on, Banjo was running madly up and down the stairs. I think he stopped to look at me two or three times. In the midst of the pain I was thinking to myself....oh the poor thing is frightened and upset and doesn't know what to do. Well, after about 5 minutes I attempted to move my leg.....YES! .... it worked! Holding my bad arm against my body I managed to get up of the floor and slowly worked my way up the stairs. At this point I hear Banjo running madly about the upstairs and it slowly begins to dawn on me.....these are the crazy, manic pawsteps of Dog Gone Wild....you know that sound .....when your dog has something he shouldn't have and is running crazily around the house with it....taunting you to catch-me-if-you-can!!!
It seems that while I lay there thinking my body was broken beyond repair, Banjo had discovered the socks, underwear, pajama bottoms and tee shirts that were left on the laundry room floor and had brought each and every item up to the living room to bask in. He never gave one thought to my well being. It never occurred to him to push the phone off the cradle to try to dial 911, or to lay loyally by my side, licking my tears til DH came home! Nope! It was PARTY time!!!!
Sort of sounds like the Captain of that ill fated cruise ship!
Footnote: Looks like I'll be ok...knee is bruised, little lump on the forehead and as long as I keep my arm close up against my body it doesn't scream with pain. Sitting here with ice on it.
UPDATE -----
UPDATE:
Feeling a whole lot sore today, in places I didn't know I had but I'm pretty sure nothing is broken and I'll be good as new after a few more days. Thanks all for the well wishes!
As for Banjo....Well I've come to the conclusion that I may have misunderstood his seeming indifference during my mini-crisis yesterday.
For almost as long as we've had him, he will grab a forbidden item and run around playing Catch-Me-If-You-Can. He typically does this when we're not paying him much attention....and he's got us so well trained that we jump right in to play the game. Running around til we catch him and then he'll drop whatever he's been taunting us with.
After some thought last night it dawned on me that he was trying to get me to get up off the floor and chase him. When the first stolen article of laundry didn't work...he went for another item....on and on! He did stop by my head a few times, although I wasn't really paying him any attention, he was probably trying to show me what he had in his mouth. His doggie attempts to entice me up off the floor! So, you see.....he really is a Lassie!!! Or a Doodle Super-Hero!
Comment
Maybe we could train these boys to do laundry!
LOL.....I hear F's influence in your voice Joanne! I really think I'm fine and figured if tomorrow isn't worse then I'll be in the clear. We're leaving at the end of the week to spend Feb in Florida...I HAVE to be fine!!!! Warm sun is what I need!
Spud sounds a lot like Banjo. He grabs the kitchen towel each time he passes through the kitchen. All day long, he goes and brings out bits of laundry. We give him a piece when we are on our way to take the laundry to the basement. It gives him a job?? Well, sounded like a good reason.
Carol, I'm still concerned. Your update is HOKUM
Sorry to hear you are really sore this morning, but so happy that nothing appears broken. Good observation with Banjo... you may have something there.
Apparently Banjo believes that one should "make hay while the sun shines" - a wise and true proverb! Hope your arm is much better today!
LOL! Oh no Banjo! You have to at least pretend to check on mom before you party! That is too funny and the dog's gone wild bandana is the cherry on top of that story! lol
I can't believe that cute little red head Banjo would do such a thing! I think you should head to the vet doctors for a look at that arm.
Oh no.... so sorry you took a spill and Lassie Banjo wasn't more supportive. Hope that arm is feeling better. If it still hurts in the morning - you should get it checked out! Take care....
Umm I am worried about your arm.... How terrible for you, Though he is not Lassie, He is cute!!!
I'm just gunna say "ditto" to Jennifer's comment!!! LOL
