Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This  year I've set some pretty lofty goals for myself and my family.  One of them is that we've all agreed that we want to spend even more time outdoors   We are a pretty "outdoorsy" family as it is. We camp , travel and hike when we can but now that we've added two doods to the family, we're ready to kick it up a notch.

I've actually been trying to get something started here at DK but I'm not having much luck.  I think I'll email some of my HDA's here @DK and see what they recommend.

I thought it would be awesome to have a group dedicated to owners who love fitness or who have a goal to get fit, where we could come and post our goals, get encouraged and inspired and even throw in a little healthy competition.  There is a wonderful group (which I joined) dedicated to keeping our doodles fit both in mind and body which is equally important but it's not exactly what I'm looking for, sooooooo, until I find something that fits, I think I'll post my fitness and diet goals for me AND my girls here.  I need all of the accountability I can get...Even if it's from me...lol, oh and I welcome anyone who wants to give me a little nug-er-oo or two :-)

GREAT NEWS!!!!! Adina gave us the green light.  She's getting our group set up for us...Woooooo Hoooooo! I'm so glad.  She was really sweet about it.

So, what kind of threads would you like to see? I have some fun ideas but since you guys really helped get it going, I'd love your input.

BTW, Lucy and Sophies mom.... You're a ROCKSTAR!  I've managed about 8 miles this month but that's because i made a ton of excuses.... NO MORE!

Well Donna, if push comes to shove we can  use the doodle fitness group and disquise our comments to be the doods talking....Murphy here... "went to bootcamp today and had to do 50 sit-ups and 20 pushups, been dieting too and beginning to see a difference in my hips and thighs already. Hope to go on a 3 mile run with mom in the morning...." Think Adina would catch on?  I'm afraid so, she's one smart cookie. Oh well.

Very cool.  Looks like there are quite a few of us.  Maybe I will email Adina and see if she will reconsider our group.  We can have a couple of threads...maybe one for fitness with our doods, one without and even some meal plans.  I think the food that I'm going to be cooking for my pups will be good for me too...lol, sans the gizzards...hahaha.  I really appreciate the responses.  I think we all know that we are more likely to stay with it if we have some support.  I don't want to join another forum just for this.  All of the people I have things in common with are right here.  I'll let email Adina and get back to you.

I actually had this as one of my goals for 2010.  I did pretty well.  I joined the "Y" in January '10 and went faithfully at least 2-3 days per week.  Got into doing a strength training class, Zumba, Power Strike and Pilates during the year.  My plans were derailed at the first of November I developed some shoulder problems and am still under a Doctors care for those.  So, at the beginning of 2011 I decided I wasn't going to let this stop me, so I've started faithfully walking on the treadmill.  I've made it (almost) through the month of January and am doing 6 days per week, 1 hour per day, with a 2nd hour 3 days a week.  So far so good.  Hopefully soon they will get to the bottom of my shoulder issues and I can get back into my classes.  So, I can use a little motivation as well so I'll try to track with you guys also.

I am determined this year too Donna to start a fitness program for myself.  A friend and I have started walking 3 miles a couple of times a week, and I want to add a couple of more days of muscle work.  I have a few machines in the house that just gather dust, but not for long :)  Of course the doods are always up for walks and I look forward to being able to climb some mountain trails this summer when it is a little warm in the city.  Let's all support each other, it makes it easier......

Hi Donna,  I  think this is  a great idea!  A support group for fitness is just what I need.   Cooper actually got me started last summer with walking and now I am walking an indoor track, sadly without him, until the weather gets better.   I started counting the miles January 1st and have racked up 11 1/2 miles so far.   Not bad considering they have closed the school for snow days where I have been walking.   Anyway, I would love to hear others suggestions for ways to get fit at home and ideas for eating plans.   I am on the new WW plan now.  Anyone else?

Thanks for the replies :) Sue I did try to start a group but Adina thought it was maybe too similar to the "doodle" fitness group. I did join that one and posted a couple of days ago but it doesn't seem to be too active. I NEED active right now...lol and that group is much more about fitness for the dogs which is of course great but I really want to incorporate my fitness with theirs.

Linnea, I'm going to check out the bodymedia...I think I under and over estimate exercise and calories regularly,
Caitlin and Pat... Maybe we can come up with some things you guys can do with your doods inside.

If nothing else, we can keep each other accountable. How should we do it? blog? non-doodle post? Or maybe we can use the doodle fitness club group. What to you guys think?
