Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all!
Part of this past week I was in Florida visiting my family and my doodles went to stay with my friend who has dogs herself and a nice fenced in yard for them to run around in. Well.... apparently two boys (mine!) had decided that they grass was greener on the other side and dug out under her fence. Thankfully- I was on a plane home, so I came home in time for them to be rescued and I didn't even know they had ran away until they were found. Now both of these guys are big and let me tell you this was a large hole, they even managed to push the fence away from the bar that runs along the grass and break the metal ties holding the chain link to that bar. So in hind sight (now that they are home safe) this is fairly impressive. However I'm not sure how they managed to be that sneaky about the digging... anyways that's for me to discuss and figure out.
From the looks of her yard they had a great time knocking over all of the bushes. They then ventured over to her neighbors house who lives across a major high way over pass and were found napping in this neighbors yard snuggled up with the neighbors dog, a half mile away. I guess when the neighbor came home from work she looked outside and saw three dogs instead of one. My best friend went over to get them and amazingly they are perfectly fine- save one small cut right above Loki's eye.
The trouble was, they managed to find every mud puddle and picker/burr bush in the city along the way and now look ridiculous! Let me be the first to say I am so happy they are now home safe and sound with no injuries because roaming around that close to a high way and it's over pass could have ended up so badly. SO couple things I have learned:
1) The grass might be greener on the other side and this would means dogs might be able to see green.
2) Even the best built fence is no match for a dog with their mind made up.
3) In a pinch- if you even need to do emergency grooming in the dark at 8pm in a drive way, the flashlight on your phone and a pair of children's scissors will give you a good start but beware of tragic results.
4) Hug and squeeze your babies and thank God for kind people out there who help out!
Here's a picture of their current hair cuts- all things considered I think I "saved" their teddy bear look-sort of.... at least they are now burr/greenery free! Loki has the blue collar and Moose has the green.
Cheers- Jess, Loki (the instigator), and Moose (the side kick)

Cheryl- Honestly I have no idea! They haven't even tried to get away since. I think what happened was that Loki was probably leaning on the fence as well as Moose, they are both leaners and maybe they then realized that they could make quick work of this?
Jenny- Thank you, and yes it is amazing! It did file their nails down nicely though!
nancy, just so glad they they are safe and sound and back with you. they look not to bad at all, I wonder what made them do that? I guess they wanted to go and have an adventure....I am sure they were as happy to see you as you were to see them..Hugs..
Glad all turned out ok. Judging by their expressions they must have had a great time on the loose.
Thank goodness they were found safe! From the looks on their faces, I'm guessing they were looking for you. They are a cute duo!
It is just so scary when dogs get out. I am so glad that they were found safe and unhurt. We had to get cement poured at the under ground at base of our fence across the front of our house because of a foster dog who was able to dig out. I'll bet they were looking for you.
OMG! I'm glad that you were on a plane and worry free through all this!! But that photo! I love Moose's face-- he looks like he had the best time in the world!!
