Well, took Tori for her yearly check-up and vaccinations...and it seems that she had a fever - a pretty high one the doctor said.. 103.9. She has been sort of mopey the last few 4 days or so... but then would play, romp, etc. Her eating habits are not as good, but I just contributed that to possible habit change now that she's 2. But.. I should have trusted my 'gut' feeling that said something was just not right. I do notice that the last couple of weeks she has been - shall we say- more concerned about her hygiene, and licking right after a pee-pee... They took blood, checking her stool and lipase levels... she's on antibiotic and $300.00 later... I have a sick puppy girl and a son with a headache... who knows maybe they caught something from each other??? We'll know more tomorrow... HUH! Just when I thought all of this worry would be behind me.. just like human kids... you NEVER stop worrying!

Eva - Hmm... she took Tori in the back to wash her up after she dirtied herself... maybe they did 'something' back there.. I'll have to see tomorrow. Don't think I'll be able to 'catch' anything - or even if she'd let me get close enough to try- she a very modest girl - lol

Thanks Karen! I figured it wouldn't be long until I saw your name pop up! Hopefully all will be well by tomorrow!

the vet can collect a urine sample with a syringe directly from the dog's bladder (sounds worse than it is). Or, you can attempt to collect by following her around and having a sterile cup ready...

I'm sorry to hear that Tori is sick; I hope it turns out to be soemthing minor and she's back to normal soon!

Thanks Eva... She has been licking as soon as she comes in she sits and licks (oh the things we say on DK - lol) she has been lethargic and as I said she does have a fever. I don't know about the color as she hasn't had accidents at all in the house... knock wood... she doesn't seem to strain. I do walk her on the leash so I know when and how she 'goes'. The vet put her on meds 2x/day. She has already taken one. Hopefully that will start working. One more question ---- and just how do they get the urine sample? bag? Thanks again!

they check for UTI via a urine sample... you said your dog has been licking right after peeing... which is a classic UTI symptom along w/ fever... but it could be other things as well, of course. Have you noticed anything else? Check out this link for list of UTI symptoms: http://www.vetinfo.com/urinary-tract-infection-symptoms.html

Thanks so much everyone! It's like when you or your children go to the doctor and hoe they find something that can be fixed with antibiotics.... I hate hearing the dreaded phrase... it's a virus and has to 'run it's course'....How do they check for a UTI, anyway... they did not do a urine sample - just blood. will it show up in that? Poor thing - she got herself so worked up in the car on the way over... gave herself diarrhea - her latest thing in the car... would actually have preferred to stick to the car sickness - vomiting/ But dr. said that she wouldn't spike a fever of that high just from being worked up.... we'll see hopefully something MINOR will show up that can be easily corrected. My fingers are crossed... she's a tricky one - this Tori-girl!

Yup, we never, ever stop worrying about our kids...human or otherwise. I'll be hoping that it's nothing serious with Tori....keep us posted.

I hope Tori is okay, and that both her and your son feel better!

poor kids - both of them... good luck and hang in there. I hope you dog has something easily curable, like a UTI maybe?, and your son a simple headache that can be taken care of with Advil. Best wishes to both.
