The other night at his obedience class Moose refused to do a down. He has known down since he was fairly young and did probably 20 downs right before class. After a few minutes of fighting with my strong willed pup, I took him outside to walk so that we could both cool down. He did 3 downs in the grass for me with no problem. We went back inside and tried again... to no avail. Then I started to wonder. Does my pampered pooch simply prefer softer surfaces on which to do a down? Could the hard concrete floor be the problem? Luckily the trainer had a dog bed on hand. We brought Moose to the dog bed and told him down. Wouldn't you know it, my dog did a perfect down right away on the dog bed! He is so rediculously spoiled! Moose always keeps me on my toes and makes me laugh. He is such a funny dog.

I love the name of your dog. Very cute. Our dog prefers the cold floors to any other surface. They are all so different.

During Teddi's training there was a boxer that refused to do a down, he just hated the feel of the flooring on his belly. LOL... I hardly blamed him having so little cushioning as it was on his belly! It's good you figured it out and didn't force the issue. Our dood's are so cute!

They certainly aren't stupid are they. That's why training a smart dog is so important, they try and wear you down to get their own way sometimes too. It's hard to be consistent when your tired ect. but really important. Enjoy the training and you will enjoy the rest of your life with them too.

Moose was trying to tell you "Mommy that hard cement floor is cold!"
