I had a conference to attend in San Diego in June and since my DH's son is in NAVY and stationed in San Diego, we've decided to make this a family vacation. So instead of me flying to the conference by myself, we drove from Denver to San Diego with Monty. This was Monty's first long trip and I have to admit, I was not sure what to expect. To my great relief, he did just great. In fact, I believe he was born to travel. He slept most of the time while the car was moving.
And when we stopped for a potty break, we made sure there was a park for him to chase a ball.
Or at least pose with Mom for a scenic picture in the middle of nowhere in Utah.
Monty was not too impressed with the "original pet friendly Motel 6" where we stayed our first night. You kind of get suspicious if your dog sniffs every single inch of a hotel room as soon as he enters. He was restless the first night and worried about every single strange sound he heard. So we've decided to upgrade the next night and spent twice the money for a Hampton hotel in Las Vegas. Monty felt right at home. It must be the fancy poodle part, I'm guessing. No suspicious sniffing involved. I tried to barter with the hotel management and offered Monty to pose for their hotel advertising in exchange for a free room.
We made it to San Diego a day earlier than originally planned, mainly thanks to our wonderful co-pilot Monty.
He was THRILLED about the fresh ocean air.
He also loved the view from our hotel room that gave him a chance to keep track of all the ducks living in the hotel pond right outside.
He loved running on the beach and meeting all his friends.
Every day in San Diego was filled with happiness and adventure for Monty and he sure loved it.
And since I'm out of characters for this blog and can't post another picture, just imagine worn out Monty sleeping peacefully on the hotel bed. :-)
Here is a video of Monty's first time on a beach:

What a great blog! I loved the pictures! Monty looks like a real traveling dood! Funny that he is too good for the Motel 6! HA!
This sounds like an awesome trip! Thanks for sharing with us. Love that beach photo!
This looks like GREAT fun!
DH and I are taking a road trip to WI, maybe I will find a pet friendly hotel and take her along (which is really what I want to do). Now, to figure out how to smuggle a 70# doodle into my MIL's condo.
Sounds like a great time. We stayed in the Quarters at the Naval Air Station at Coronado one time. Beach there was really nice. Could have walked all the way down to the Coronado Hotel except for the guard with a gun at the end of the Naval Air Station property! Glad you all had a wonderful trip. I think sometimes in the dog friendly hotels the there have been so many dogs there that it can make the dogs a little uncomfortable. We stayed in a really nice La Quinta (I know, not normally so nice) in Valdosta. They were very pet friendly. Gave the girls bones when we check in, had a nice walking area for the dogs with potty bag stations etc. However, Lucy was a mess the whole time we were there. Just too many smells for her. She was so uncomfortable. That isn't normally the case with Lucy, that's usually Sophie!
Jarka, This all sounds like so much fun and I loved the pictures. I am with Monty on the Motel 6.....LOL!!
Sounds like a very fun trip
I love the photos, especially the ones of Monty on the beach! What a fun trip.
It looks like Monty had a wonderful time on his road trip! Love the photos!
Jarka - How far was your trip? I love this! At some point I may have to drive Ollie 19 hours...with a hotel stay or two of cours...it's encouraging to hear this went well!
I love the pictures! (And Monty, I'm suspicious of Motel 6 as well)
Haha! He looks great. I love the shot of him at the beach with the wind blowing at his face. You could have taken Echo! I am sure that Monty would have loved having a travel buddy.
