Morning routines - Does your doodle know it's a weekend?

Luna absolutely knows when it's a weekend.  Dogs seem to have pretty strict routines and Luna is no exception!

Weekdays we're up at about 6 AM - Luna lies on the bath mat while I brush my teeth etc. She then has her morning food + time outside before we go.

Weekends - sometimes she sleeps in until 8:30 (if I do), but sometimes I wake up earlier (7:30).  If she wakes up too early, we just say "go to sleep" and she does a big sigh and goes back to her bed.

After she's had her "downtime" after eating, I try to play with her.. but there are a few problems with this:

1) One of her favorite places to fetch is down the hallway upstairs into the bedroom.  Not so nice for DF who is trying to sleep!

2) She likes to play LOUD, especially when the person she's playing with is growling along with her.  Can't do that in the morning while someone is sleeping either!

3) I'm sleepy, it's a weekend and when DF wakes up we go to the dog park... so no walk.

Our play time in the morning usually looks something like this:

My DF is definitely her preferred playmate, so after about an hour of me ("Mommy you're boring!  You're not making any fun sounds!") she starts trying to wake him up.

I think DF is VERY happy Luna doesn't seem to understand how to jump on the bed.  Sometimes she manages to punch someone in the face with her paws to wake them up if we rolled too close to the edge.  Although she has "accidentally" jumped up on the bed about 5-6 times when extremely excited, most of the time this is what happens... silly girl.

One of my dogs knows when it's Monday. He sleeps by my feet, but on Monday mornings when the alarm goes off, he comes up right by my chin and curls up with a happy little sigh, the little stinker. He only does this on Mondays. It's cruel!

Some of you have some really early doodle alarms!

Cute stories :)  Dogs are funny with their routines.

Bexter knows I think when I don't get up at 5:00 to take him out, and we are STILL sleeping that it's the weekend!

I think ours do know it's the weekend.  My husband is home on the weekend and we usually go to the lake one day each weekend.  On weekends only, they keep trying to get out the door to get in the car.  They don't do that during the week.  Probably the change of routine is what they notice.

Vern is like an alarm clock every morning and weekends are no exception. Sometimes, I think he is worse on the weekends, because he is excited my husband is home. Fudge would sleep in every morning, if it were not for a large, cream colored dog we have residing in our house. My husband keeps saying he will outgrow this, but he is two, so when is it going to happen..LOL!!

Enjoyed your videos. Luna is adorable!! I guess if you have to get up to something, a doodle would be my first choice :)

Very cute videos!

JD used to let me sleep in, but since he's been on prednisone, I get the 6 a.m. wake-up call every day!

Such cute videos of Luna! Thanks for posting. We have a ball like the one in the first video and I squeezed a small ball into the larger one. The dogs cannot possible get it out and it became a new exciting toy for them. I love how "poor, little" Luna is sure she couldn't possibly get up onto that high bed. So cute.

Since we got Owen we are always up at 6 am. Hoping that he will grow up to learn that weekends are for sleeping until 7 am. Kona would sleep as long as we want.

Im lucky, Cooper will sleep in as long as we do. However, if she hears someone up in the house (we are currently living with the inlaws) she cries to go out and needs to go potty. I often get DH to take her out, but then he goes back to bed and I get up and play, feed etc Cooper

Luna is so cute - an extra fluffy mini golden retriever!

Achilles totally knows our schedule and loves to sleep in on weekends.

Really, really cute....thanks for sharing.  She sure wants her Daddy to get up and play!  Now that we're retired, every day is a weekend for us.  LOL
