Murphy....The Naughtier He Is, The Cuter He Gets...Why Is That?

It really is true...Murph has had a bit of a "naughty day", but he is just so darn cute all I can do is laugh. What's up with that? I think it's a "second dog" thing. Why do I always have such high expectations of Guinness, but not Murph. It's just WRONG! Murph just has this way of looking at me with a goofy "cocked head" and I melt. I can't get upset with this dog. Soon he'll be walking me on a leash. Today's examples (in addition to eating the tick)....

I went to pick up some things at CVS. On a table by the registers they had some clearance items including a package of 12 doggie tennis balls. These were not ordinary tennis balls....they were in beautiful colors. I'm not kidding....lavender, hot pink, light pink, turquoise, lime green, orange, plum. I've never seen tennis balls like this before, and they were only $4.00. Do you think I should have gotten a hint by that price. Well I didn't because I was too in love with these colors. So, I bought them and brought them home, took them out of the bag, and put the package on the credenza in the hall. Murph spotted them right away, and he loved the colors too. I left for a while, and Murph "credenza surfed" for the first time ever. He got the package of balls, opened it, and then started to systematically rip the outsides off of these "really pretty" tennis balls. He did a pretty good job. I like the fact that he didn't waste too much time on any one ball...he was going for quantify not quality. I think he was very proud of himself...and those colors were still pretty scattered in pieces on the floor. Where was Guinness you ask...just watching.

Guinness has found a great way to completely blow Murphy's mind. He hides on him. Now wouldn't you think that Murph with his "Lab nose" would be able to sniff him out. Nope. Today Guinness decided to hide under one of the dining room chairs. These chairs are upholstered with "skirts" that go to the floor, so Guinness clearly can't be seen when he's under there. Murphy was "on the hunt" trying to find his brother, and getting more and more frustrated. He finally figured out that he was under this chair, but he couldn't reach. He "flipped out" and as I looked in from the kitchen I could see him take the upholstery in his mouth and try to rip if right off the chair. I don't think I've ever moved this fast before. Luckily I got to him before he was able to do any real damage, but if I hadn't been right there there would definitely have been one less dining room chair.

My DH told me that while I was out shopping (for pretty tennis balls) he was sitting in my desk chair staring at the computer. I'm betting he was trying to log onto DK to tell you his side of the story...and you'd probably believe him.

Wow Jane I just love your blogs. The "hiding" is just hilarious as are the tennis balls. You have got your hands full now and I love the blend. Menses Guinness and goofball Murph. What a hoot. Oh how I loved your vaca pics. I have now done another blooper. I am just way too soft. I accepted a "part time" job helping our community college kids learn to read. It has mushroomed into about 30 hrs/wk. I almost quit last weekend and should have. Now they are in a bind until next semester, at which time I WILL ONLY do 2 PMs a week. Also Lauren living at home and just got yard/landscaping in at our new house. She She goes to daycare two days and is only alone like for two hrs. by the time hubby and daughter get home. But still ...

The second child always gets away with everything after the first child has broken the parents in. Ask any first child ;) Good think you're cute Murph!

Sounds like he is a happy boy. Thank You for loving him. He still has a piece of my heart, too.

You have some cute and funny boys! I love Murphy's "solution" to finding Guinness...bite his way through the chair!

I was just thinking about this same thing with Fudge and Vern. Vern is a pistol, but he does the same "goofy cocked head" thing. Today, I loaded them up in the car and he immediately found a water bottle cap. I noticed him chewing on it when I got in the car, told him to drop it, and ran around to get it out of his mouth and he swallowed it. He looked like he was smiling by the time I got around to open the door. I am praying it makes an appearance soon :)

Murph,
We don't like not stinkin' sissy balls neither.
Ned and Clancy.
PS from Ned to Guinness: Way to hide buddy! I like to hide under the dining room table too.

I'm cracking up here! Why oh why didn't your DH take a picture of Murph trying to use the computer?
Jackdoodle says Murphy must be crazy to tear up perfectly good tennis balls, although he may have just been feeling insulted by the obviously feminine colors and wanted to make it clear that he is NOT a girl!

Murph and Roo have a lot in common. Except Roo is a first dog - so go figure. The tennis balls were probably history anyway, but glad you salvaged the chair. I have to always take Murph's side though because I am "Murph" also. My maiden name was Murphy, my husband's large family started calling me Murph and then "Aunt Murph" and now I have a grand niece named Murphie. All of us can be a little ornery, so maybe its the name. Hugs to both dogs

I know what you mean. I would never have let a child get away with what Quincy does. No kid would ever have been allowed to use the couch for his personal napkin. That Murphy is just too cute for his own good. Of course he always reminds me of Quincy so that makes me a little partial to him. I love the pic of you with him on the park bench he looks like such a lovabe goofball.
