Our little Topper left us this morning with his new daddy for his forever home in New York. He was such a big boy, behaving very well while we stood and talked, he laid at his new daddy's feet. Then once all set up in his new car harness he jumped right in the car and sat down to get buckled in. As they were pulling out of the driveway his tail was just wagging and he was standing between the seats giving his new daddy kisses.
He is going to have 2 new human sisters and 1 human brother. They still do not know about him so are they ever going to be surprised this evening when daddy gets home. Wish I could be there is see that excitement. He is going to love having children to play with. And, he will be an only dog so I think that will be good for him as well. He won't have to worry about anyone eating his food.
For our first foster experience it went very well. I think that we have decided fostering is a little like childbirth ..... you have to give it a little while to forget the pain, but then you will be all ready to do it again. Right now I'm just ready for a nice quiet nap!
UPDATED -- MONDAY MORNING, March 22nd
Had an e-mail from Topper's new Mommy this morning! He made it home after an almost 12 hour ride on which he did very well. The children were over the top with excitement, but were following all the new rules. Apparently dad is a "superhero" at the moment! Kids didn't want to go to school today but mom assured them that Topper would be there when they got home. He had settled in, been for a couple little walks, had some dinner and was settled in the den half on his new bed! So, he will have a chance to get more settled in today while the kids are at school, and I''m sure he will be all ready to play when they get home!
