No Personality = No Doodle In My Book

Okay I'm sorry, but really! If you (as an owner/human) don't have a personality....PLEASE don't get a Doodle. My daughter and I were at the pet store yesterday and we encountered a couple with two dogs - - one looking very much like a Doodle. With a BIG smile I ask, "Is that a Doodle?" Response....a very cold "yes" and the lady just keeps on walking. My daughter and I stare at each other in disbelief. Did that really just happen? No smile!? No extra "stuff"!? She just kept on walking. So, we give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she is having a bad day or maybe Thanksgiving just got the best of her. We see them again and my daughter walks over and asks the gentleman..."What is your Doodle's name?" He looks at her as if she is a freak on a leash and says...."XYZ". Poor, poor Doodle.

That happened to us at a Dog Park. Two large Doodles playing and we came in with ours and tried to start a conversation. Just responded yes, they're doodles and continued ignoring us. We just took our mini doodle and went to the small dog area where she played with a poodle and shi tzu with friendly "parents"

Not on DK much these days, so I just read this blog. Oh, my Gosh!!!! I am surprised that you didn't get more of a response, though 18 plus mine is a lot, but still... we all must have a story and I agree with you whole heartedly that No personality=No doodle owner.... YES!!!! There should be some form of test to pass. You would think that the breed alone would draw people out. I am always taken aback when I get the cold shoulder when I inquire about a doodle. How can people not want to just rave about these dogs?!!!

Sooo Funny ~ I have a story... One summer day in July, I was in PetSmart here on Long Island, and I saw this beautiful puppy. It looked like a doodle - an aussie doodle. (Which I have) I asked the woman on the other end of the leash if it was an aussie doodle and she enthusiastically replied Yes! We spoke a bit, and after speaking for a brief time, it turns out that it was someone I had "met" on DK!!!! We figured it out, just from our conversation in PetSmar! A SMALL -(Doodle) World. Perhaps those people you met should become members and realize how special (and kind) we "doodle owners are!

When people ask me about Halas, they're lucky if I don't make them look at about 20 pictures and a couple of videos. But your blog reminds me of an experience I had. A few weekends ago, in Chicago, I saw 3 doodles in various parts of the city. One was right outside my DBF's house. I didn't have Halas with me, but the doodle walking by was the same color. I asked if it was a doodle, the owner said yes, and we proceeded to chat for a few minutes while I showed her a pic of Halas. Pleasant conversation. The 2nd one was sitting outside at a restaurant, and I couldn't get to that corner of the patio, so I didn't get to talk to that person. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they would have talked a little bit about their doodle. The 3rd one was on Michigan Avenue. I waited until we had all crossed the street, asked if the dog was a doodle, and the owner said yes, but just kept on walking. We went a different direction, and about a block later, I said, "That woman didn't let me touch her doodle." DBF said, "I wondered how long it would take you to say something. You always let people meet Halas if they ask about him." I was surprised at how disappointed I was. And I laughed at the fact that only doodle owners could hear the phrase, "that person didn't let me touch their doodle," and not think it's dirty.

1000% agree! Maybe they were dog sitting - still, if ya have a dog, I would hope you would be proud of him/her! We had our puppies trained at PetCo and we were stopped all the time, being asked what kind of dogs we had, even WHILE we were behind the barriers during training and I always talked to the person and LOVED talking about them! I think I even talked one couple into looking into the breed for their next dog! When we started taking them for walks, we had neighbors stopping us and asking...and it got us to meet some neighbors we may have never met before if Hunter and Daisy weren't there with us! Embrace the attention, I say!

Ha ha Nancie. See man has been searching for the elixir of life for years and us Doodle fanatics have discovered it by owning and loving on our doodles. I had to laugh regarding the comment you made regarding what you adult children say about the way you behave as my youngest has recently moved to Vietnam to teach English for one year and the older kids reckon we have given up her bedroom and contents to "Frankie":)

OMG...Frances...we do the exact same thing with Gracie Doodle. I am Momma and my husband is Poppa. We also make bets as to how many times we will be stopped and asked about Gracie every time we take her somewhere. This is the best way to get a great big smile on your face. My adult children are always saying "Gracie makes Mom's tail wag"!!!

Doodles need fun families. They don't sound like much fun, very loving, or anything like the majority of us doodle lovers!!! Crazy in love with our doodles!! We are so excited when we meet other families with doodles.

All I kept thinking as I was reading that blog was "poor dog...fancy belonging to people like that". My husband and myself are a couple of empty-nesters who actually refer to each other in front of our puppy as "mummy" and "daddy". Ha ha...nothing gives us more pleasure than to take Frankie out for a stroll and be stopped by strangers who ask about her. We actually ask each other when we take her out "alone" as to how many people stopped and gave her attention. Simple pleasures are healthy pleasures and the joy we receive from owning and proudly sharing our "doodle" is going to make us both live forever....:)

I've encountered a couple of these people. One time I asked this lady if her dog was a GoldenDoodle and she said its an "ENGLISH" GoldenDoodle! and she kept on walking! But I find those people are definitely the exception. Most are like me and want to chat and chat!
