Morning Walk... and a Dietary Supplement :o)

It's beginning to warm up in Texas, so I've been walking Shelby in the morning and evening (as the sun goes down). This morning was one of those mornings when it would appear Shelby (who is almost 6 months) has never had any obedience training. The birds, the blowing leaves and everything else seemed to be too exciting for her to exhibit any self control during about 1/2 of our walk.

Shelby decided to take her dietary needs in to her own hands this morning. She ate a dead snake... a small garden snake. Prior to this, she had picked up dead frogs, birds and snakes, but I was always fast enough to get them out of her mouth before she knew what was happening. Not this morning - Shelby was quick and knew I was going to take it away.... she swallowed it in 2 gulps! Shelby has a bit of a sensitive system, so it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the next 24 hours!

The silver lining to all this - Shelby is exhausted and napping on the cool kitchen tile. :o)

Well, it's been over 72 hours now and there have been no negative reactions from Shelby eating the snake on Sunday morning. Thank goodness.... Thought I would update you all in case your doodle develops the taste for snake :o) which I am sure is a delicacy somewhere in the world!

Oh, yuck!! I'm sure she'll be fine, though. They're probably high in protein? (LOL) Just be aware....Nugget ate a frog once, we freaked, but she was OK for the first 24 hours. Then, she got lethargic and started drooling...a lot. Took her to the vet....they said it was OK, but put her on an anti-inflammatory....can't remember the reason for this (it was a couple of years ago) but she was fine in a day or so.

Nugget's been eating goose poop no matter how we try to keep her away from it. Thank goodness the geese don't hang out in our yard, because Nugget would eat them instead of their poop, but when we take her for a walk, we actually have to DRAG her away from it. How gross can they be? THEN they want to kiss you with those mouths!!!

I didn't think I would go for a snake either, but I've pulled 3 or 4 out of her mouth now. This is a small snake, probably 8-10 inches and the width of a pencil. It is now 6:30pm here... nearly 8 hours after the snake incident and Shelby is a happy camper. We have visited both Lowe's and Home Depot today... and she is peacefully sitting at my feet chewing on a rawhide right now. So far.... so good! I do think I will freak out if the snake is clearly noticable in her poop though!

I could handle the frogs and birds, but no way would I go down either of my Doods throats for a snake. I sure hope the slimy creature doesn't make Shelby sick. Yuck...

I'm not sure how I would have handled this. I'm pretty quick at sticking my hand into the girls mouth as far as possible if they go for something I've told them to leave ...... but a snake, I DON'T DO SNAKES! I'm not sure what I would have done!
