OT Boy Moms, Girl Moms and Great Friends

My sister threatened to take away my first born if he were a girl, simply saying that I can't fix hair, can't tie a proper bow, know nothing about manicures or pedicures, fashion or ballet. I had to admit that all of that was true. I prefer to do my shopping from catalogues like LLBean, Orvis or Lands End, think short hair is much more time efficient, love football, think that it is more important to know how to throw a proper curve ball and bait a hook than do ballet. It is very difficult to "gross me out" as my boys and their friends have tried endlessly

Sometimes, on Yappy hour, the ladies discuss movies and I can only assume that they all have daughters. I have never seen or heard of these movies. On the other hand, I have seen all the Rambo, Bruce Willis, Fast and Furious, Crocodile Hunter and any other guy movie you can think of.

A few weeks ago I spent the weekend at my friends beach house in Alabama. We were walking around (me with big, goofy Murphy, and Pat with her little Bichon) when we ran into some "new people". Pat began talking to the mom (with a 2 year old girl) and before I knew it Murphy and I were climbing down the rocks to the water helping the 2 boys (4 &6) catch whatever it was they were catching. We were having a blast catching hermit crabs and other assorted things. This went on for a while before Pat noticed  I was "missing".  Murphy and I were quite yucky at this point. Then I got this

"Linda, what are you doing??" Then she and I laughed. She has daughters and was much more comfortable oohing and ahhing over the little girl, while I, on the other hand, headed straight for the boys.

When my sons finally get married I will call on my good friends to dress me and fix my hair and do all the other things that I am so clueless about.  Pat has already started. As a graduation present she got me a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. I have to admit, it really wasn't that bad. Just don't know how long it will last when I start working in the yard. ;-)

And I can only hope for grandsons.

I loved girlie dresses and dolls, I loved playing in the mud, climbing trees and playing hockey with the boys. I wanted a little girl that I could dress up in all those cute little outfits. I got a boy who would only wear sweats and velcro shoes because it was too much trouble to learn to tie laces.

No kids yet - I would love a boy because growing up with so many women is a difficult thing (hormones, arguments, etc...) - I was the girl who wore "pretty, pretty dresses" (I coined the term when I was 3) but played outside ALL DAY LONG in the mud and came  home a hot mess!

I would love a girl though because I am worried the boys would leave and "cling to their wives"...hehehe.  Those are my thoughts on children today. It changes daily!!!

Oh gosh- my poor mom WISHES I was more girly-girl. She tried and tried and begged and BEGGED me to wear dresses and fix my hair nicely. She would spend over an hour trying to hold me down, braid my hair and then wrestle me into a pair of tights and a dress....only to have me turn right around and take it all down/off.
I'm such a tomboy :-)
I ride dirt bikes with my dad and brother.
I prefer camping to lounging on the beach with a prissy drink in my hand.
I like the mud and the dirt....
I've always said, if I EVER have kids, I'll only have them if I can be guaranteed that they will be boys...ha!

@Lisa Thanks for the encouragement. Nice to hear she cleaned up ;-)

@ Sue Hopefully I'm trainable if I have a granddaughter.

@Adina..Wait till this little boy gets here. He will teach you so much and you will do things you never thought you could much less would.

@Pat That sounds exactly like my bathroom. I don't know how many times I caught my sister trying to throw out my rocks. I haven't read Lee Child yet, but I will definitely go and get them. I LOVE the story about your granddaughter..I can definitely picture me in trouble. I would spend a week explaining the rules at MIL's before I took my boys there. At Grami's we can't do this ... She never childproofed the house, had white carpet, crystal vases, etc.  I was a nervous wreck by the time we left.

Yes, I'm with you Linda!  I'd be down collecting the hermit crabs and such with the boys.  Some friends were teasing me the other day because the basket in my bathroom that has some makeup in it also has shells and cool rocks and even some small fossils.  If you like to read and haven't yet found the Lee Child books about Reacher, go get 'em!

I'll never forget the day I took my then four-year-old granddaughter to the park, where we had a marvelous time splashing in puddles and such.  When we got back to the house, my very girly-girl daughter was horrified by our mud-spattered appearance--and I heard myself saying in a whiny and defensive voice '...but we have our boots on...'

I feel bad for Natalie as I'm very much a girlie girl...not in the overly pink, froofy, ballet, manicure sort of way but like Lisa, below, I don't like dirt, bugs, camping or getting dirty...lol.  Wish I did.  Wish I liked camping and the great outdoors, but my family just never did that stuff and I never developed a taste for it.  Hopefully Natalie will make friends with people who DO like to do that and they can take her on trips :-)  I am also happily clueless about sports and not much of a DIY'er.

I am a little bit of both, prissy and tomboyish at the same time. Maybe because I have a boy and a girl and they taught me how to get in touch with both my masculine as well as my feminine sides. I have one grandson and asked my daughter who is expecting in December to make it a girl.  I like one of each!   But I would be happy no matter what ofcourse.

Girlie Girl here along with her girlie girl daughter. Don't like, dirt, bugs, camping, getting dirty and being too far from a decent bathroom. Did have a boy dog but he was a sissy.

I appreciate my friends with only boys, and yes, they were all very different than me. Love them all to death though cause everyone of them are sweetest people I know, down to earth and great attitudes.

A dear friend's son just got married, she cleaned up nice for the wedding. Ha ha

Now Laurie, how can a self confessed germaphobe be a certified tomboy?  Just saying...
Comment by Laurie, Fudge, and Vern on June 19, 2011 at 5:49pm
I am a certified tomboy, but had two daughters. I have to say I did not care at the time, but now love having my girls. We have always had female dogs, until our Vern and he is like that messy little boy I never had :)
