OT Boy Moms, Girl Moms and Great Friends

My sister threatened to take away my first born if he were a girl, simply saying that I can't fix hair, can't tie a proper bow, know nothing about manicures or pedicures, fashion or ballet. I had to admit that all of that was true. I prefer to do my shopping from catalogues like LLBean, Orvis or Lands End, think short hair is much more time efficient, love football, think that it is more important to know how to throw a proper curve ball and bait a hook than do ballet. It is very difficult to "gross me out" as my boys and their friends have tried endlessly

Sometimes, on Yappy hour, the ladies discuss movies and I can only assume that they all have daughters. I have never seen or heard of these movies. On the other hand, I have seen all the Rambo, Bruce Willis, Fast and Furious, Crocodile Hunter and any other guy movie you can think of.

A few weeks ago I spent the weekend at my friends beach house in Alabama. We were walking around (me with big, goofy Murphy, and Pat with her little Bichon) when we ran into some "new people". Pat began talking to the mom (with a 2 year old girl) and before I knew it Murphy and I were climbing down the rocks to the water helping the 2 boys (4 &6) catch whatever it was they were catching. We were having a blast catching hermit crabs and other assorted things. This went on for a while before Pat noticed  I was "missing".  Murphy and I were quite yucky at this point. Then I got this

"Linda, what are you doing??" Then she and I laughed. She has daughters and was much more comfortable oohing and ahhing over the little girl, while I, on the other hand, headed straight for the boys.

When my sons finally get married I will call on my good friends to dress me and fix my hair and do all the other things that I am so clueless about.  Pat has already started. As a graduation present she got me a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. I have to admit, it really wasn't that bad. Just don't know how long it will last when I start working in the yard. ;-)

And I can only hope for grandsons.

I've never been a girlie-girl so when we had a boy it was okay with me.  Now that we have one DH, one DS, two male doodles and one male foster doodle everyone has said I'm surrounded by too many guys - but I like it - there's no pressure.  (I'm secrectly glad we didn't have a girl, I don't know how to do braids and fancy hair dos and nail polish lasts about five minutes before I chip it so why bother?)

I am chuckling at this posting.  My son was the first boy born on either side of our families in 35 yrs.  My sister had girls, my mother had 3 girls, and all the aunts had girls.  When the Dr. said it was a boy, I stared in disbelief, a boy? what do I know about raising and playing with a boy????...When I had my second child and it was another boy, I was well prepared for little boys, lol....I still wanted a little girl, that I could dress up, and play dolls with, but not enough to get pregnant again.  I loved having the boys, they were loving and funny, and they still are.  They brought me daughter in laws, that are like daughters to me, and both my boys got married two months apart almost 3 yrs ago,  Talking about nutso, thats what I was between the two weddings, lol...do I sometimes wish that I had tried for that little girl, of course, but I am hoping for granchildren, and maybe I will get my girl then, if not I can play with a little boy too, just no snakes or bugs, or other creepy crawlers around this grandma, lol...My one son married a girl with a child, and she is a delight, she is at the age for manicures and pedicures, she is going on 12 yrs old, so I take her, but yes I would still love to be able to buy for a BABY Girl, lol...

Joanne

A girl after my heart. My sister took me for my first manicure and she had them do the acrylics. Little did I know it would be almost a year before I got my old nails back...but I didn't end up in the ER. How awful!

ps I did coach my son's U-10 soccer team.

Thank you Camilla.

@ Nancy...Its cool how boys are born knowing how to make truck noises. Who would have thought..

@Jane my mantles are filled with rocks. My youngest son and I got in trouble flying back from Tahoe because we put this BIG rock in his suitcase.  But he got it for me..how could I leave it?

I am a super girlie girl and my first two children are boys.  When I got pregnant a third time, everyone said that I might finally get 'my girl.' I did not want to tell them but I secretly wanted another boy!  I got my girl (and then I got another boy two and a half years later!).  My daughter is the best of both worlds as she is girlie but an awesome athlete who plays multiple sports with ease and talent.  She scares the heck out of me though as she is all that I am not...an athletic spotlight-seeker more comfrotable in her own skin at ten than I am at my age.  My boys are easy but she is giving me a run for my money!

Ahhhh Boys.   During an ultrasound the doctor said, with a frown on his face, it's another boy.   I jumped for joy and almost rolled off the table.   As a fisherwoman, soccer player,  dirt digger, woman myself, girls scared me to death.

When I filed for divorce my friend took me out to eat ( everyone was so relieved I finally signed on the line) and took me to my first manicure.  Acrylic nails.  I asked her how I would get my work done with nails?  She said, " Woman wilth nails don't do work, Joanne."

As the day wore on with my newly painted plastic nails,   my fingers swelled and swelled to the point I could not touch a thing.  She then took me to ER

I like DIRT BETTER.   So, she bought me a shirt that said,  " Girls Love Dirt"    I was much happier.

Boys, Nails, Dirt, AND Graduation!!????

Dr. Linda??   :)

I love my only daughter and I am a girl's girl - but my boys stole my heart.  When that dirty little, chubby hand held out a gift of a heart-shaped rock - life couldn't have been better.  The day when one of them told me that I was that he "loved me cuz I was the bestest cooker", nuff said.

My mom is the same way. She has always preferred sports and outdoor work to manicures and pedicures. :-)

Girls or boys, your grandchildren will be lucky kids to have such a great Grandma!

First I had my baby girl to dress up and play with. Then when I had boys, I thought I would go bonkers - what do I do with them? Then I realized that though I am a girlie girl, I am not foo-foo but a sissy;  I LOVED the boy stuff - dinosaurs, bugs, and stuff.  I just don't touch.  My girl turned out not to be a foo foo girl either, although like me, she does appreciate a good manicure or pedicure.
