I received an email in my DK inbox from a member asking me how to donate money to the Doodle Rescue Collective. It seems that her 5 year just had a birthday party and instead of having friends bring gifts, this 5 year old asked friends to donate money to the DRC!! This is how it all came about.

I was telling my daughter about a recent Ohio rescue effort of about 150 dogs that I heard about. I just said that we don't know if all the dogs will survive given that there would be space issue and I feel so bad that I cannot volunteer right now. So, when we explained this to our son, of course, he wanted me to buy all that "poor doggies" and get them home. I had some explaining to do:-) Then when I suggested how about asking people to donate for the poor doggies instead of getting him the gifts because really he doesn't need all those gifts...he readily agreed. I was taken aback because he is just 5yrs old!!!

I received another email a short while ago that stated that $100.00 was sent to the DRC to help Doodle dogs in need. I just can't begin to write the words to tell this 5 year old how this makes me feel. I don't know many children, no matter the age but especially a 5 year old that would give up opening up presents in ordeer to help dogs they will probably never even meet.

I just needed to share with my DK family this story.

Just an amazing child! This Mom is so incredibly proud and she has every right to be!

When this child's Mom read this discussion, she wrote this to me:

I told my son yesterday that i sent the money and his question was "so, how many dogs did they save?". It is so funny that the kids go straight to the point:-)

How wonderful.  Don't children always amaze us when we least expect it?

To whom ever's child this is: Your daughter is an incredibly bright, compasionate and thoughtful child. Be careful she will probably bring every wounded or orphaned baby squirrel or bird. My mother wasn't impressed when I brought home a baby snake because it didn't have a mom. Dad thought it was funny.
