Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I posted this a few days ago but accidently deleted it so I am posting again. My darling Quincy doodle has yet to meet a toy he can't destroy in seconds flat. Stuffed toys are his favorite things to dissect. Unfortunately he also tends to eat them which could lead to a big problem. To try and teach him not to do this I came up with a great idea or so I thought. Enter Froggy. Froggy is a cute little pink and green small stuffed toy. My thinking was that if I could teach Quincy to carry him without being able to chew on him he might be less inclinced to tear him apart at other times. We took Froggy with us on a couple of walks and he would carry him quite nicely for the first 20 mins or so, then he would start tossing him around and playing with him. This was good, this is how I wanted him to play. After a few minutes of this he would just leave him on the side to the road and walk away. I became very good at carrying Froggy. So now comes test time. I gave Quincy the frog to play with while I was typing this and I am sad to report the Froggy is now suffering from amputation of his two front legs. Oh well, back to the drawing board. The one good outcome of this experiment is that there was much less sniffing and Quincy walked so perfectly that I had to peek every now and then to make sure he was still on the leash. I think maybe we will keep trying this experiment as I would love Quincy to actually enjoy playing with his toys and not destroy them. It is getting a little expensive. I have added a photo of Quincy with Froggy before his amputation.

Goodwill, good idea. I think my mom would go for this if I didn't eat the stuffing. Mom doesn't mind so much that I tear up the toys, she just doesn't want me to have to go to the doctor. Maybe I'll try not to eat things I'm not supposed to, but it's going to be hard.

Quincy, my man, we are here for you.....there is nothing better that making the floor look like it snowed (we love the snow!)....we don't eat the stuffing...but after we rip (love that sound) off the head...legs...and tail....those parts become "chewies"...Mom plays a game with us...she hides the "chewies" and we have to find them....then we chew them like gum...spit them out....let them dry and we start all over again.

We get $2.00 a month, a piece, to go to our favorite shop to get toys...it's called "The Goodwill"....they have great stuffed toys and we can get lots for $2.00....

Quincy and Lady P.- maybe you could convince your moms to take you to garage sales to find old stuffed animals the kids don't want any more. Realize mom will have to remove buttons, ribbons, etc for safety - but then you can have the thrill of the destroy and not break the bank. My mom had a garage sale and a friend (and his human) came to check it out. He was staring at this white stuffed bear... his mom bought it for a quarter and he carried it home... then destroyed it :o)

Dear Quincy...it's Lady P. For some reason my mom won't even buy stuffed toys anymore. I heard her tell dad that I was making them spend $20 a week on toys. So now my toybox only has 6 things in it: the blue twist thingy, mom calls the tug-o-war toy, two zogoflex bones, one zogoflex ball and 2 antlers. I like them, but I wish I could destroy some animals again. Oh well =( You are lucky your mom gives you many chances.

Hey Quincy, Halas here. I do the same thing to most of my stuffed toys. And if they try to sneak one of those unstuffed toys past me, I just rip it apart, too. The stuffing is fun, but the thrill for me is in the tearing. My mommy found out that I didn't do the same thing with this small, squeaky ball that came with one of my toys. I just play nicely with it, and I never try to tear it up. So she bought me a pack of the ones in the link below, and I love them. For some reason, I don't feel like ripping them apart. I just toss them around and squeak them to entertain myself. Mommy said something about them being a good deal, too. It's less than $12 for 12 balls, which is way cheaper than any stuffed animal I've chewed up.

Frogs legs ARE a delicacy. I'm impressed that Quincy knows the ins and outs of french cuisine ;)

Quincy, you're my "kinda guy". Your Mom thought she could trick you, but you're smarter than that. I know you were just carrying "froggy" around to give her a false sense of security. I know how badly you wanted to rip off those legs. I really like how you got her to carry it....that's pretty funny. Now when my Mom gives me those toys she sits on the floor right next to me and when I try to rip it apart she says...."no!!!!!". What good is a toy that you can't rip apart....it's just no fun. Murph doesn't tear them apart yet, but it's not because he's a good boy (Mom thinks he is). It's only because his teeth don't work like mine....I have "big boy teeth".

Hi Quincy,
I was good and gentle with my toys until I hit 8mons of age. However, if my mom gives me stuffed toys with no appendages (ears, arms, legs etc) I do not rip them apart. You should ask your mom to try that.

Dear Quincy,
Ain't ripping into the toys and tearing out the squeakers really fun? Wanna' have a contest to see who can destroy the toy first?
Love and doodlehugs,
Clancy
