Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I've decided that if I ever rescue a female doodle, or have an opportunity to name one, I'm going to name her Fontella, after Fontella Bass. She sang that song, Rescue Me, in the '60s. Get it? I'll call her Telly for short. I think it's terribly clever. These are the things I think about as I'm driving and changing radio stations.

Great idea! These thoughts usually come to me as I lay awake at night trying to go to sleep - lol

I like the name Fontella, and the reason behind it (and, of course, I'm old enough to remember the song :) )
As you may have seen me mention before, I tend to name my doggies slightly unusual names - I've had an OES named Laird McGinnis, mixed tri- color Beagle named Cotton (no white on her, took her to the vet before she had a name and when he pressed me for a name I saw the jar of cotton balls on the counter and there you go!), a Walker hound/lab named Barnabus(after the character from Dark Shadows - but he somehow got nicknamed Bubba since he was such a hound!), a mixed wolfhound named Morgana Faye (from King Arthur), and my current two babies - Cheagle - he's actually a beagle/lab/shepherd mix, but when we adopted him from the shelter they said he was a chow/beagle mix - so the name Cheagle came to me - and Wakefield - my labradoodle who is named after the town here in Virginia (on 460 going from Petersburg towards Virginia Beach). I like the more unusual names that aren't really people names, but don't sound like dog names either.

I'm lazy when it comes to names. I am just not creative enough. I had my husband name our two doodles. I had my daughter name my son. I think if I get another doodle I'll go to petfinder as they always have some pretty cute names on there I can copy.

So Karen, is it safe to assume that your next dogs will be named MC Hammer and Al Yankavic? :o)

I also have a thoughts on dog names as well. If I ever get another doodle, it will be a male and I would name him "Christian" after the Christian the lion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVNTdWbVBgc

The best names are in the songs and song titles themselves, though, not just the artists!
