Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am sure it has happened to others, but how do you respond to snide remarks from poodle people?

Murphy and I were in our annual Mardi Paws parade last Sunday. (There are very few doodles here, and none as large as Murphy.) As we walked, everyone wanted to know what kind of dog he was. A lady with two standard poodles in the crowd, upon hearing that he was a goldendoodle, remarked " I think it is disgusting that they would use a poodle to breed that. He is just a mutt."

I didn't respond, and fortunately, was already past her when I heard the remark. It really irked me, to say the least.

Any insight or suggestions appreciated.

My guess is Murphy knows more tricks.

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful, supportive comments. I just have never had that happen before.
I felt my mom instincts coming out, like Timbow's mom said."Nobody talks like that about my Murphy!" But, fortuantely, I had walked past her.
I will be able to deal with it next time.

OMG, that is baaaaad. I have never had anyone say such a hateful thing!! How can someone say that about such a wonderful dog??? We are taking the best of the poodle and the best of the labradore or golden retriever and putting them together!! How can someone say such an a**ine thing!!! Especially about a loving animal such as a doodle!! I really have not had any such remarks!

I am so tired of these snooty people and their dogs....Where ever we take Olliver, people stop us and ask what kind of dog he is, and he is so great, he loves all the attention....He loves people and kids, loves little ones in strollers, etc. He loves grown ups too, and loves to be in the middle of everything with everyone, dogs, or humans...I have yet to meet anyone that doesn't love this doodle, and when he had his picture taken with Santa this past Christmas at Petsmart, he was the only one that sat on Santas lap and smiled for the camera...The photographer was stunned, as was the Santa, lol...But when the picture was done, it was so great that she used it to show to other customers...He looks like a giant stuffed dog sitting on Santa's lap...I wouldn'at trade one hair on his body for all of those snooty dogs and their owners...Our doodles are the best, and we all know that...And for good or bad it is becomming a known fact how wonderful the doodle is...

I dropped a groomer because of her nastiness about Sage and how terrible her coat was. She was a poodle person. She also bred Aussie Doodles. But to her Sage was just a problem. We got out of there fast after she went off about her bad coat to my husband and daughter. We have a wonderful groomer now who loves Sage and takes great care of her beautiful curly fleece coat!

I guess I'm lucky, only great comments. I even had a lomg conversation in the Apple store one Saturday with a poodle breeder. Winston was with me and he thought that Winston was very handsome. We spent about 10 minutes talking dogs while we both waited to be helped.

I have gotten the mutt comment quite a few times - not yet from a poodle person - but still in a rude way that. I just smile and say "yep, she's a mutt and I love her to death" and walk on. Those people are just miserable and it's not worth arguing (although I can't even write in this blog what I actually THINK in my head when they are rude like that).

Where was THIS? I've NEVER come across any such attitude. In my neighborhood(s), no hubby would be caught dead walking a standard poodle around the block (well, one did, but he hid his nose in the WSJ). Labs and goldens and doodles reigned supreme, with rescues coming in a close second. A poodle owner with attitude? That is hilarious! Well, it takes all kinds. And heck, if people would stop breeding dogs for looks instead of temperament and health, breeding the brains right out of some of the purebreds, people wouldn't be craving all these crosses, right?

I would know that I should let it go, but I'd probably get in a fight. No one talks like that to my Timbow.

I'd let it roll right off my back. Having procured just one of my fur-kids from a breeder (the rest have been / are rescues), the last thing that matters to me when it comes to dogs is status. I'll take my smart, goofy, scruffy, scrappy mutts over someone's show dog any 'ole day.
