to keep from crying!!

DH was fishing today, so I thought it would be a nice treat for myself and the dogs if I went home to let them out while on my lunch break.
I get a one hour lunch break and it takes about 15 minutes to get home (30min round trip) so it was only going to be a short 30 minute visit with the dogs, but I'd take it!
I got home and as soon as I opened the door, my little guy tripped me trying to run out of the house. Two seconds later, it hit me, the smell. Oh my gosh. What is that smell??
I looked towards our doodles crate and saw it...she had gotten sick. She had runny poop all over her crate, herself, on the walls nearest her crate, on the floor...I have never 1) seen that much poop 2) smelled something so awful.
My poor girl was in the corner of her crate shaking. She had poop dripping from her ears and nose...it was horrible.

I did the only thing I could think to do, I opened the back door and then opened her crate. She took off out of her crate, tracking poop throughout the house until she was just about outside. That's when she stopped, spun around, looked at me and started to shake. She flung ...well you know...you can imagine.
I ran towards her and pushed her out of the door.

I looked back at the crate and decided the best thing to do was pull the tray out of the bottom and take it outside to just rinse off. Her crate is huge (42") and very heavy. So here I was trying to balance the tray, poop dripping all over the floor, and open the door. I should have known she would try to run back in. I dropped the tray...grabbed her and a leash and rushed to tie her up outside. The minute the door slammed behind me...I realized I was locked out.

This is where I just started to laugh.

A few minutes later I was able to locate an unlocked window, I stacked a few lawn chairs on top of one another (the window was high) and then tied Molly to the fence. I managed to climb in the window without killing myself. I started back to what I was doing. Picked the tray up, balanced it as best I could, opened the back door, stepped out onto the back porch and...woosh...the door shut behind me. LOCKED OUT AGAIN!! Covered in doggy poop and pollen (from climbing throught the pollen coated window).
Back to stacking chairs, back to crawling through the window...back to laughing out loud to keep from really crying.

It took me over 1 and a half hours to clean my house...the walls, the crate, the toys, the towels, the floors, the carpets.
Then I had to give Molly a bath. I couldn't leave her dripping with poop. She was just spayed Wednesday and I was told not to give her a bath for at least two weeks....but it just had to happen. I tried to keep from letting any water or soap get on her stiches. She shook a good three or four times...on me...why not? I already had every other nasty thing imaginable on me at this point. I wrestled with her to dry her off, while trying to keep her from rolling in the mud.
I was able to get her back inside and back into her crate.

I changed clothes...the entire time telling myself "I love my doodle, I love my doodle".
I know it wasn't her fault, I hate that she got sick and had to sit in that mess for however long she did, and I can't blame her for locking me out...that was my own sillyness.

I was two hours late returning to work.

***Sigh***...oh to be a doodle mommy :-)

PS. I'm not sure what made her sick, DH is headed home from his day out on the lake and is going to keep an eye on her. I think it is a mixture of just being spayed and maybe eating to much yesterday to make up for not eating on Wednesday...and then, I gave her a ham bone last night and maybe it was a little too early for that :-( Whatever caused it, I feel bad now...but I think I got my pay back!!

It is either laugh or cry. Choosing to laugh is a life lengthening decision - besides DH now owes you big time!!!!  Poor Molly.  I hope she is doing better.  I don't think I would have made it back to work - just called in 'sick' cuz I would have been feeling that way from the smell.....  I admire you for that.

This is where I go over the edge - I'd start laughing and then sorta get laughing so hard that it turns to crying and then the neighbors would be calling the police because I'd be sobbing ;)    Wow, what a day!  I hope dh had a drink waiting for you after work, I hope you have an understanding dog loving boss!!!  Might be a good time to hide a key outside!

oh poor doggy and poor you. Doesnt it always happen at the worse times? I hope you didnt get into trouble at work.

DH and I had a similar experience (if it makes you feel better). Cooper had worms and was on some natural worming meds. We were expecting her to poop out the worms, and were hoping we were at home when it happened. Of course we werent. We came home from working the late shift (10pm) to find pools of liquid poop all over the floor, and it smeared up the walls, door, kitchen cupboards, crate, crate blanket, toys, furniture. Everywhere. Barely any floor space was showing. Thankfully we have laminate and linoleum! We cleaned and cleaned, taking several hours, then cleaned up Cooper. We rent and the landlords live upstairs. Rules are we cant do laundry after 9pm or at weekends and of course it was friday night. So into garbage bags the rags and towels all go (many we just  threw out). Go to bed, to be up for work just a few hours later (on the early shift). Thankfully, we both work in a pet food and supply store, so i took Cooper to work with me. She slept in the office and I took her to poop every hour. It took a few days for her to be better.

We did not laugh! Good for you to see the funny side!

LoL, yes it WAS an adventure. One I hope I never have to go through again. Like I said, I blame myself :-) I guess that's why I just had to laugh.

I'll be honest, for a split second I thought about turning around, shutting the door and pretending I had not come home for lunch. That way DH could take care of the mess...but I just couldn't leave my doodle that way :-(
I just hope she doesn't get sick again tonight. I'm def. sticking to normal food for awhile, I do have some pumpkin that I just picked up yesterday...I may consider giving her a spoonful of that.
...you live and learn...

Wow, what a lunch break. I am so sorry - you need wine tonight :)

As for the tummy ache, I would be certain it's the ham bone.  They are super sensitive for about a week after surgery. Stick with their food and normal treats.

Lindsey,  You're a better woman than I am.    Wow!  To be able to laugh is remarkable.   A gold star for you and OH....a nice bottle of wine too!

What an adventure! I hate poop hahaha:) It was probably the ham bone. I have heard of another dog getting sick from a ham bone but as long as they don't usually make her sick I wouldn't stop giving them to her unless, of course, it happens again. I hope it doesn't. It sounds like you have had enough poop for the rest of the year! I hope  Molly feels better soon:)

This had to be the day from Hell for you...So glad you were able to laugh, I would have freaked out, and then cried, and then got myself togrther and did what you had to do. What a horrible thing to come home to.  Poor Molly, she must have been so scared, but as bad as it was, and the calamity that followed, I am sure that she was so glad you came home to help her, can you imagine if you had been gone all day!!!!...I am hoping that Molly is better now, and that the diarrhea is over.  I would be very careful feeding her today and tonight, maybe some boiled chicken and rice and a little pumpkin?  Bless you, I would have hit the wine bottle or the Xanax, and even then I don't know if I could have laughed...I hope tonight and tomorrow are better for you and Molly....

Oh Lindsey I so feel for you, and I am so glad it all came out in laughter.  I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to get so upset, and them just burst out laughing at the situations that I and my doods get into.  One day, and I can't blame it on the doods, I went out the front door to water and the door closed on me, well the front gateway was locked too.  I had to sit in the small gated front entry until hubby came home about 4 hours later.....   Also have to give you credit for going back to work, I think I would have called in for the rest if it was me :)
