Stuart's Fan Club

[Jane, Rooney & Stuart]

DH finally got home last night and it had been almost 2 weeks since we had seen him.  The doods went crazy - all tail wagging and bringing him their toys as a welcome.  I had warned dh that Stuart had totally matured from a puppy look and that he no longer even slept on our bed.  So this morning on our 3 mile jaunt through the neighborhood and marsh - dh says "Stuart looks like a real rag a muffin".  Really?  I think he is adorable there mister so watch it, that is like saying my baby is ugly.  Just at that moment, up ahead comes two men riding bikes past us and as the cruise bye the one guy yells out - "hey Stuart - how ya doing buddy."  Dh looks at me with a quizzical look and asks me who that was - I tell him that so many people have stopped me while I'm out walking Stuart and Rooney that I simply have no idea who the man is.  We continue on a ways and here comes a lady with her Portuguese Water Dog - Lulu - who stops to say hello - to Stuart!  Poor Rooney is a bit ignored in all of this but dh is now looking at me with wonder in his eyes - how does this lady know Stuart?  She gushes on and on about how much personality Stuart has and that at a dinner at someone's house the topic was "have you seen Stuart?" - lol.  Finally on the last leg of our walk - yep - once again a couple walked past saying "hello Stuart"!!!!  I very smugly turn to dh and tell him that Stuart has his very own fan club - didn't he know?  In little Rooney's behalf, lots of people think he's cute too but darling, from the wrong side of the tracks, Stuart is so adorably goofy looking that people are just drawn to him.  It brings tears to my eyes to think of how lucky we all were to be able to adopt Stuart.  I believe that part of the reason people are drawn to him is that I ALWAYS explain that he was a rescue and how we came to have him, trying to put a tiny thought in their minds that rescue can be awesome!  So now there really is a Stuart fan club - dh, Rooney and I - we are the charter members.

What a wonderful feeling to have Stuart so recognized and appreciated. Luca is my meeter and greeter. Calla although more reserved is much more friendly then she was and I have to keep her from sniffing at people in awkward places as we walk by : )

Same thing here, Jane.  I think everyone loves a big, goofy guy.  People will usually comment first about Murph, and then they'll say "oh and your little one is cute too".

[Laurie, Fudge, and Vern]

Jane, I have this same thing with Fudge and Vern. Everyone loves Vern, but Fudge is my dog who loves everyone and is much more approachable. My sister just said to me yesterday that she never wants a dog, but if she did it would be Vern....oh, and she loves Fudge too. Stuart reminds me of Vern a lot in looks, BUT if I every run into you on a walk, I am going to ask how Stuart AND Rooney are doing and tell you BOTH are beautiful dogs. You are so lucky to have such great dogs.

I don't think Rooney is any less cute - but Rooney is much more shy, it only takes a moment for him to warm up but Stuart - he bounds right up to everyone expecting pets and hugs.  Plus his size 60 lbs at 8 months tomorrow - he gets noticed more.  Rooney doesn't mind - they are the best of buddies.

He really is the cutest thing, especially in that red sweater. I know everyone would agree that they are both equally adorable in different ways so....

He's adorable Jane but poor Rooney is also a cutie!! This same thing happens with us-everyone yells HI Chloe even though it's me, DH,Chloe & Myla I say who's that (mostly girls) DH says I don't know ask Chloe!! They will also say hey there's that walking dog I told you about! They only know her because she's a ham and loves to greet people and walk up to their houses on her hind legs! I guess she's pretty hard to forget.

The vest is the same red sweater he was wearing in the Christmas photos for our cards and I bought it at Petsmart.  Dh was joking about him being a rag a muffin but then it was straight out of a comedy the way people kept saying hello to him by name!  Right now all the snow birds are back so there are tons of people around here and Stuart is just very friendly - would go to anyone.  Rooney is much more reserved.  Somtimes I look at Stuart and wonder where that puppy mill life might have put him.  I can't stand to think of him in a cage in a pet store or far worse!  Would he be the same lovable, happy guy?  Scarey to think about.
