Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Well, I have been practicing layered cakes for the past few months, and I'm down to the last week. Next week is my friend's wedding, and I am doing her cake (panic stricken look). I decided that my last practice would be to just make a 14" round (which is the size of her bottom tier) to make sure I can work with something that big without any problems. That went by without a hitch... and I was left with a huge white fondant covered cake that could serve 75 people. What to do with it? Well, I have been wanting to make a "doodle cake" for quite some time so I made some for fondant and whipped up some last minute cake decorations.

It didn't exactly turn out like I hoped it would, but I guess it's still pretty fun. The dogs came out a lot more cartoon like and generic than I wanted them to... but I really couldn't help that. I realized during the process that making realistic looking fur and realistic looking dogs is WAY above my skill level. So my results were a little... elementary. There was still a lot of white space left so I made some paw prints and a "DK" to finish it off... after all, I did use DK doodles for inspiration! Can you guess what doodles I used for my inspiration? .... I didn't think so. They aren't realistic enough. :-)

Now... does anybody know what I can do with 75 servings of lemon filled white cake? Ha!

From left to right, Karen's "Jackdoodle" (miserable attempt to copy his cuteness, I know), Jane's "Noah", "Lucy" of Lucy and Sophie, and Kyoko's "Charlie"

Your fondant is beautiful!!!! That's not easy! Way to go!!!! I love it! Did you use a yogurt based fondant? That couldn't have been easy to work with! :)

Wow! I haven't ever tried carving a cake, I think that is a little out of my league. :-) I do want to take classes, perhaps I will take on on this technique. I have made a lot of gumpaste figurines, though. Here is an example of what I mean, it's baby jungle animal cake toppers I made for my sister's baby shower. I have been wanting to make a doodle one, but I haven't figured out how to do the fur yet. :-)

Camilla --- Although I think your cake is every bit as creative, check out this link. It was posted about a year and a half ago on here I think originally. I challenged my young niece to try and make this for Lucy and Sophie for their first birthday. She gave it a shot, but she was just taking lessons at the time and it was a little to challenging and cake got to heavy and caved in on her. She intends to try again some day. Thought you might enjoy seeing the video since you are taking lessons as well. Again, I love your cake. I'm printing it out to take with me to show my niece today.
