Poor Bexter!  His favorite resting spot WAS the register on the office floor near me (while I am computer-socializing on DK).  Yesterday, he was resting there and jumped up frantically crying out and running under my computer desk.  Of course, I freaked out!  I looked down and his collar tag had gotten caught between 2 of the slabs of the register cover thingy and as he freaked out & jumped up, it was still attached to his collar hanging there in front of him (almost as big as he is really).  I quickly undid his collar to get the thing off him & then easily got the tag out from where it was stuck.  Ever since that happened though, he will NOT lay down over there.  Is he smart or what?  I am sad for him though.  Now he lays down on the hardwood floor outside my office where there is a basement door which has cold air flowing out under the door crack.  Whenever I used to get ready (shower, etc) he would lay on the register in the bathroom too, but now will NOT go near it.  Who said dogs can't generalize?  Poor little guy.  He's been traumatized.

Do any of your dogs have a fear of unusual things?

Trav is afraid of statues and suspicious of toys that have been thrown and hit a door or anything that makes a loud noise.  He seems to think the toy did it...but he forgives the toy after a while.  My daughter's dog is afraid of round food--like berries, tomatoes--wonder if she's tried giving him a meatball...

Oh Traci...

So sorry that Bexter had such a scare...and am thankful that he's fine!!

I don't keep a collar on Sasha when she's in the house...

She never tries to run outside...so it's not a problem.

It helps regarding matting...and with things like this.

OK - I went online & looked at the boomerang collars/tags.  I am seriously thinking of doing this because I'm so scared of something happening to him when I am not around.  But...what about rabies tag?  That has to be on too, doesn't it (he gets his last shot including rabies in 2 weeks...yay)?  Wouldn't that tag just dangle?  I'm not sure what to do.  Also - I don't want to get one of their collars until Bexter is a little bigger so I won't have to up the size later...Maybe I'll try to wait a little while longer.

I've heard similar stories of tags getting caught. It makes me think maybe I should get those boomerang tags...

Our Springer Spaniel is afraid of feathers or anything that looks like a feather!  He is not afraid of birds, ducks, gees and will chase them. So WTD with feathers?

LOL. Huff is afraid of his box fan, because it always falls. He isn't afraid to lay infront of it only to retreive a ball or something that is in front of it.

I second the Boomerang tags. They are easy to take off for switching collars too.

Our run in was with the dishwasher rack. Quincy doesn't wear his collar inside the house anymore. Here is a link if you'd like to read it.

Poor Bexter!!! I could write an encyclopedia of the things Lola's afraid of. Come in the house with bags of groceries - end of the world, sprinkler in the garden - end of the world, exercise equipment, laundry baskets, if something (anything at all) falls on the floor, she turns into the worlds faster sprinter. We try to do the positive association thing, and that works sometimes, but we'd have to quit our jobs if we wanted to fix every fear!!! It's her "personality" and we love it!
