Our puppy was born July 25. So every month, we celebrate her birthday on the 25th. My good friend has Penny's brother, Jeter. (I have several photos of Jeter in my Photos section). I talked to my friend on the morning of 4/25 but we didn't mention our puppies monthly birthday. Later in the day, I realized that we hadn't discussed it so I called my friend back. She was glad I remembered to bring up the babies' birthday. We reminisced about the last 6+ months since we adopted Penny and Jeter. We had a lot of fun thinking about all our memories.
Then I said out loud, "Why does the date 4/25 sound so familiar to me?" My friend said, "I dunno". Then it suddenly hit me! OMG, it was my wedding anniversary! Oh, crapola, how could I forget this? This has never happened before! Sure, the DH has forgotten in the past but I never did. DH had just gotten home from work so I yelled to him (he was in a different part of the house), "Happy Anniversary!". My friend questioned laughingly "You forgot your own anniversary?" I tried to excuse it away, telling her I was thinking of Penny and Jeter's birthday.
You know you've been married too long when you forget this! I am usually very good about dates, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. My brain is a database for this sort of thing usually. I have to remind my DH of his own mother's birthday. That's what I do.
Since our anniversary was almost completely forgotten, of course, we didn't have any dinner plans. We always go out to eat on our day. Well, it was already dinner time. And I was dingy looking and had a cold to boot (ah, yes, maybe it was the NyQuil!). I told my DH I wasn't up to going out. I sent him to our favorite Italian restaurant and he brought home carryout. It wasn't very romantic but it sufficed. The food was delicious, at least!
If I hadn't discussed Penny and Jeter's monthly birthday on the phone, I wonder if I would have forgotten our anniversary altogether! Duh!
