The good, the bad, and the ugly..

First, the good: Sophie's kidney function is within "normal", so she does not have kidney failure at this time. This makes it very likely that she will survive this disease. Rarely do they develope kidney failure if it wasn't present when treatment was initiated. I nearly cried when the vet called me at work to tell me the good news.. a bit emotional with everything, but it still felt good to know my girl is not too bad off at this point.

Now for the bad: She has blood in her urine and may have a littlle irritation so the vet wants to put her on a food that will be easy on the kidney's for a month or so just to prevent any problems. It's a prescription food called K/D. I'm picking the food up tomorrow.
More bad: She didn't do as good today, tires easily, and she vomited this afternoon Vet is wondering if she is doing ok with the antibiotics. We might need to cut back on the dose and wean her into it. She NEEDS the treatment.

the ugly: the vet bill, and the dirt she tracked into my house after trampling my beans in the garden today.. dang dog!

So. there you have it. My dog will probably live to see another day of running through my garden, chasing balls and birds, and snuggling with me! (which is awesome)

My thoughts are with you and your beautiful Sophie. I just read her wonderful story on the DRRC website and 'm so glad she is doing better.
She is a lucky little girl to have such a devote loving Mom.

That's great Elizabeth!
After working in a dialysis center for people...man it would suck for a doggy to have kidney failure!
Glad that is in the clear and hopefully she'll be back to perfect health in a jiffy!

I am thrilled to hear that her kidneys are fine. It will take time but she will be okay!

Oh-thank goodness! I have been following your comments and was pretty worried and I know how happy you must be to hear the good news. Dirt in the house and eating beans-minor problem that you can repair, Now the vet bills-that is another story- no one can fix that - but it is worth it-right??

Like others have said, Sophie's been through a lot, and she's a strong puppy, so she'll get through this, too. Glad you got some good news.

The Good is so worth going through the bad and the ugly! Now every time she does something bad, you'll just have to think, "at least she's here" and forgive her that much sooner! At least that gets Lizzie out of trouble a lot. :-) Congrats on her doing better, I'm glad to hear it. And if it makes you feel any better, I was about to buy a big screen tv before Lizzie got sick, so I paid my vet bills instead. So I'm watching great channels on a 19" ancient tv!!! Lizzie is worth it though, every minute of every day.

Glad to hear there is good news. At least when you're snuggling, you don't think of the bad & the ugly.

Liz, Karen is right. Your family and Sophie have been through so much, that this is just a little blip on the life line. You will share many years of snuggling together and all of us are pulling for you. Doodle hugs and Kisses to both of you.
