A while back I started adding a dab of cat food as a topper on Tara's meals. Of course she thought this was THE BEST and quickly stopped eating her meals unless they had the cat food topper on them! Recently I bought a can of TOTW dog food and thought I would try using it to replace the cat food topper. WELL, when the cat smelled the canned dog food SHE wanted to try it! Soooo....I put a little on her food. You know where this is going...
Now I have a DOG that won't eat her food without a CAT food topper AND
A CAT that won't eat her food without a DOG food topper!!!
OMD! I guess the grass really is greener on the other side of the pet food aisle!!!

Janice, LOL! Well at least you refused to be "trained"!
Jane, that reminds me of the time I left Tara's Freeze Dried Liver treats out with the lid off. I returned to the kitchen to find Amber (kitty) with her head stuck in the can trying to reach the treats!!! LOL These crazy kids! So now the Liver Treats are dog AND cat treats at our house! :)
LMAO - I can relate!!!!! Stuart loves our kitty's dry kibble and we have to keep Humphrey's bowl up high, kitty loves the dogs dried chicken jerky - go figure.
Sadie had the same reaction with pumpkin. She would refuse to eat and sit in front of the fridge door until the pumpkin came out.I finally waited her out one day and she did eat with out the topper. Now When I get out a can of pumpkin she almost does back flips.
Lisa, glad you and DH enjoyed the blog...but learn from it too...beware of toppers!!! LOL
Pat, be careful! It's a slippery slope!
Deanna, don't you wish you could read their minds?
Thanks, Christine!
F, now that you mention it they have never complained about my attitude!!
Laurie, I bought a book that explains how to teach your dog these things! It's been on the shelf for 3 years now and I can't figure out why Tara just doesn't seem to GET it! LOL!
Bonnie, it all started out so innocently...
Thanks, Camilla! :)
Sue, it sounds like a movie title "Slipperless and Remoteless in Medford" What do you think??
Jane, it happens so fast you don't even see it coming!!
LOL... that is funny!
I think you're right about the greener grass thing - we have an "outside" cat named Hercules. He loves to sneak in the house and drink from Sedona's water bowl, while Sedona can't pass Herc's water bowl in the garage without taking a few gulps. It's the same water, but somehow it's better from the other's bowl! :)
So funny, Ricki! You start out innocently trying something, and then....it's permanent! I was thinking about getting a bit of cat food for Trav's topper, but now I'm scared, very scared...:)
OMD I had a moment exactly like this this morning. I bought Penelope a can of chicken stew to try out and I couldn't keep Sophie away from it to save my life. Winston too. Then I brought out the wellness canned beef to make Winston's "Pill Cocktail Meatball Delight" and in comes kitty, who was suddenly possessed (similar to how she is when I'm eating cereal with milk) and couldn't keep herself off the table and away from the beef. I caved and put a tiny smidge in her bowl. No cat food for the doodles although I am pretty sure Sophie has already figured out a way to get to the leftovers in my absence.
LOL! DH and I just had a great laugh at your expense Ricki!
