Hi All!!!

Once again my Doodle Addiction is permeating another area of my life!  Lately I find myself singing/humming Christmas Carols as I work around the house only I tend to work the word "DOODLE" into every one of them. For instance:

Boy, these last 3 years have just flown by!!! My mother used to say that when you get old  are mature time passes REALLY fast so I guess I have officially arrived!!

A while back I started adding a dab of cat food as a topper on Tara's meals. Of course she thought this was THE BEST and quickly stopped eating her meals unless they had the cat food topper on them!  Recently I bought a can of TOTW dog food and thought I would try using it to replace the cat food topper.  WELL,  when the cat smelled the canned dog food SHE wanted to try it! Soooo....I put a little on her food.  You know where this is going...

Okay, so most of you know my feelings about dog parks in general although I admit there are some out there that are good. Today DH, Tara and I ended up stopping by our local dog park just mostly out of curiosity. It has been some time since we were last there and have actually never gone inside.  We didn't go inside today either but stayed outside and observed.When we arrived the park was empty but soon they started showing up!!

I was in the garden the other day and in an unused section I discovered a strange plant. At first I thought it was a weed but upon investigation discovered it to be a very familiar plant that had flowered.  As you can see, Tara was none too happy to have her picture taken with it, but that does not mean that this is an unpleasant plant-just a grumpy doodle!!!  This is a plant that you are all very familiar with but probably not in this stage of development. So this morning I let Tara out to do her "business" and it was raining. She ran out and did a quick number one and then a quick number 2 and dashed back into the house. However, instead of settling in as she normally does for her morning nap, she starting running around the house looking behind her like she had the Hounds of Hell on her tail!!  Then she would freeze and stare at me with wild, pleading eyes only to take off running again.

Four years ago DH and I felt as if our hearts shattered when we lost our 18 year old cat and 15 year old dog on the same day. We still had our current cat Amber at the time but I think we both silently vowed never to let another dog into our hearts again. It was too painful to lose them. But as the years past I found that I was stuck somewhere in the grieving process. In a 2 year span we had lost 3 of our parents, 3 of our animal companions and a favorite Uncle. Some of you may remember Tara and my adventures when I attempted to scissor cut her awhile ago. The cut turned out pretty well but it took me 8 days. Yes, eight!! And that was just her body!!

Well, it is day 8, I THINK, somehow in all of this, time has become a blur. The fur has continued to fly on a daily basis. DH walked into the house the other day and found a big chunk on the top of my head!! Don't ask me...

Well, several days ago I finally, with much self talk and encouragement from DK got up the courage to try giving Tara a scissor cut. What I had not factored in accurately was Tara's tolerance level for being "messed with" and my excruciatingly slow methodology. Bad combo!

So here we are 4 days later. The first day I was able to get the top of her head cut. That was IT! Next day, under ears and down to collar level. Done. Third day I worked down her back about 1/3 of the way…

Tara and I have been practicing the rollover trick for the past few weeks. We are learning tricks from the "101 Dog Tricks" book and this one seemed pretty basic and easy. We started by learning the roll part which got her flat on her side. She caught on to that fairly quickly but then we got stuck at that point. The little legs just didn't want to go over. Tara has been, from the beginning, a very sensitive girl when it comes to grooming. I started brushing her when she was tiny but it never went well. She squirmed and fought me and I had to play her into exhaustion so I could brush her after she fell asleep. We were both miserable and I kept thinking about how many years ahead we were facing as this issue loomed over us. Even after she started visiting the groomer it didn't improve. But at least I wasn't laying awake at night in tears…
