Houdini Dog Strikes Again:

I went into the living room yesterday, and couldn't figure out why there was a half a small bag of M&M's on the floor.  Looked under dining table, and there were bits of gum wrappers and torn napkins.  Didn't take Columbo to figure it was Riley, getting into my wife's jacket pocket.  She always has treats, candy and gum in her jacket pockets.  Other than knowing where items came from, there was no physical evidence left at the scene.  My wife's jacket (drapped over dining room table chair), had no visible marks of entry. I looked for evidence and there was none: no hair, wetness or other signs of entry. But, I feel I have enough to bring Riley up on charges.

Based on my 10 year-experience with forensics evidence (Thanks to CSI: Las Vegas). The evidence you described seems insufficient to get a conviction. The defense would argue that they are all circumstantial evidence as you cannot prove that the M&Ms were eaten by the suspect. You will also need to convince the jury of the MOTIVE. Defense would argue that Riley is respected doodle with no prior record. He's fed regular means (3 times a day) plus snacks in between.....why would he need to steal a few M&Ms? Preposterous, right? :P

Riley would never be convicted by a jury of her peers!

Hmmm... how do we know it wasn't YOU, Charles?  Perhaps you are trying to divert attention away from your thieving, sugar-filled ways!  :-)

All very circumstantial I agree with Barbara!

Riley looks totally innocent to me! Maybe you should have hired Columbo!

All my jacket pockets smell like dog treats.  I have learned to always hang my jackets back in the closet or I'm sure they would be "pocketless".  Riley is one smart Dood!

I agree that Riley was framed!  I'm sure he knows that gum and chocolate are bad for him, and, therefore, would never steal them. Do you have a cat?  Cats are always trying to set dogs up.

Funny how our dogs force us to be neater around the house!
