Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Tomorrow it will be three weeks since we made of NJ road trip to bring our Murphy home. In some ways it feels like he's been part of our family for so much longer. He is one of my boys now, and I love him with all my heart. He and Guinness were fast friends, and that bond just continues to grow. They are crazy about each other. Sometimes when I watch them "Doodling around" I just can't help but laugh. They are clowns together. Guinness though has really developed some "older brother" behaviors. It's like he doesn't want to do anything wrong. He has completely stopped stealing things from the waste baskets....I can now leave them on the floor in the open and they don't go near them. He has stopped destroying his toys...he used to be obsessed with that. I think now he just is no longer bored, and there are more fun things to do with Murphy.
This puppy is amazing. He still doesn't mouth, or jump or chew. Is he really a Doodle? If you tell him "no" once, that's it. I just don't get it. I just put a video out of the Irish brothers playing together. You'll notice in our "office" my files still sit on the floor in wicker baskets. Murphy went over to them once and started to pull out papers...I told him no and took him away. He has never gone back. He's great on the leash now, and I can walk the two Doods together...no pulling or biting the leash. Murph will just walk next to Guinness. I have to remind Guinness about getting ahead of me, but never Murphy. He's becoming so much more affectionate. He used to always defer to Guinness during "cuddle time". Now he climbs right up on my lap, even if it means sitting on top of Guinness. He's getting big. I can no longer pick him up...and I do miss that. He has training class tomorrow, and he needs to do a sit/stay for at least a minute. We practiced this morning, and he does it well if Guinness is also doing it. He'll do anything Guinness does. I wish I could bring Guinness to class with me.
So, it's all good here. The boys are now sleeping until 6:45 which is like heaven. We still have to bring the puppy out every hour or so during the day. He drinks a lot....so he pees a lot too. That just goes with the territory. I have definitely learned that it's easier with two. So everyone with "puppy fever"...I can highly recommend it.

It was so nice to read your comments about how you adjuted so well to having two doodles. I have a 16 month old and am "taking"delivery of a second doodle on 4/19/10. I am excited and anxious all at the same time. Your words have given me some comfort for that age old question "WHAT HAVE I DONE!

My second was also easier to train, but I have come to the conclusion that he is just an easier dog in general and so willing to please! You'll love having two. It's the best. By the way, I just went and looked at your first video and I think you've got my Dustin's clone! It was so much like looking at Fenway and Dustin when they were little. I miss it! Sweet sweet puppies!

I am so thrilled for you. Perhaps Murphy is getting into those Irish ales you have and is just a bit tipsy!

I totally agree!! Charli was so much 'easier' to train because of Samantha. It didn't hurt that Samantha is such a good girl and Charli just picked up those good habits. Of course, Samantha had already passed the obnoxious stage and is so 'mature' - WOL!
It's funny, or not so funny actually, Samantha is the one giving me trouble 'walking nicely' on a leash and Charli never does. I am going to have my friend and trainer, Debbie, work with the 3 of us when we get home. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I am so thrilled that everyone is in love! I just love Happy Tails! I wish I could talk DH into a 3rd!

Jane, this is wonderful news. But Caitlin is right - you're not helping my puppy fever! :)

Oh Jane, I am so happy for you. You deserve it so!! I am really thinking that maybe I'll do adoption next time, but don't tell my breeder. I really want a doggie family, but I struggle w/ fatigue problems and I don't know if I can do another puppy-unless I get Sheila trained enough like you did Guinness and Sheila can help. I can already see Sheila's poodle side coming out and she is soooo smart that she DOES get bored easily and since I am home, I am trying to keep her out of trouble ALL the time. She even has this look that says, ok, I'm frisky, what can I do to get Mom's attention? She is much less like my lab Sandy, who would just do what I said (even if I had to repeat it when puppy). This one THINKS IT OVER before she does it!! I always said Guinness was a menses dog. Now he can mentor. He has a job and he is thriving in it. Good for you. I love to hear the stories.

I loved this post! I love hearing about Murphy and Guinness ad how they are adjusting. And Karen is right, it makes me jealous. I not only want a second dog now, I want the perfect second dog! :-) It really does sound like it was just meant to be.

We ain't too bad at "picking" adopters, either.
