Trade-in Her Dog?

We were at a rescue event in Irvine, CA and a woman came up to us and asked if she could trade in her dog for a smaller one.  I thought at first that she was joking but, she was totally serious.  The dog at ten pounds was bigger than she wanted.

 

I told  her that we would accept her Maltese as an owner surrender but there would be no way that she would get a dog from us.  She was indignant and said, "I haven't had the dog all that long, just 9-months!"

 

There are all kinds of people in the world but that takes the cake!

Its sad but lots of people out there think that dogs are disposable and I hate them all !!!

That is simultaneously one of the saddest and funniest things I have  heard in a long time.  It is too bad you did not have a small stuffed toy dog to trade her for her Maltese. Everyone would have been better off.

OMD!!!  I can only imagine the look on your face! I give you credit for not giving her a piece of your mind!!!!!! i don't know if I could have held back! She has no business having the little gem!!

Holy Jupiter. Are dogs just an accessory with no feelings. I wish Calla weighed about 20 pounds less so I could lift her in an emergency but it never dawned on me to try to trade her. I hope that woman gets something far less appealing than cake : )
