Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Today in Jacksonville was the annual Trail of Tails to support the Humane Society.
As we were leaving there was a man who walked towards us with a goldendoodle that looked much like Bailey. I asked him how old he was and he said he was 9 months. I asked him where he got him from and he mentioned a small town close by. I always think if I see a doodle that looks like Bailey that they might be related..Any way...
The guy tells me that he has a trainer that is giving him away. He said he had his papers in his truck and was just looking for a good home for him. He gave me the card of the person giving him away. My DH looked at me and said ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! This pup was so calm and well behaved. He had on a red vest with a white cross on. I didn't get a chance to talk and ask question but I am going to try to call him when DH isn't around to get more info on this guy...
Why would someone just give a doodle away? He appeared so calm and well mannered.
Just needed to vent.....Will keep you updated as to what I find out

Thanks for the update! Hopefully the guy will take good care of the dogs until they find great homes. I wonder why he is leaving them intact...Could it be because he can't afford to have them all neutered?
Jane: Yes I am disappointed. Bailey loves playing with other dogs so much. I would love to get her a playmate. I do know that if where the dog is coming from is questionable that it might not be a good match anyway...
Karen: I have decided to let it go. I just say a little prayer to St Frances to look after these boys and hope that the guy that has them takes good care of them.
Wow-Sorry to hear they all need homes, but it seems a little weird how they are going about this. I hope they go to kind people who can take care of them.
Elizabeth, I'd let it go. The whole thing sounds extremely fishy to me (Papers? What kind of papers? What does that even mean? And let's not even get into five 9 mo old males being rehomed intact. Nobody who knows anything about placing dogs would dream of doing that.)
You did the best you could. Right this moment, there are hundreds of doodles in bad situations all over the country. We don't know the details, so we don't lose sleep over that, but it's true. We'll just have to trust that these 5 will find their way to safe loving homes.
It does sound like he is being careful about where these dogs are placed. I know that you're feeling disappointed, but sometimes these things are just not meant to be.
How bizarre that the breeder had them THAT long. But it sounds like this trainer guy is taking care of things.
So I called this guy while in the parking lot of the grocery store while my DH was at home. I told him that I might be interested and wanted to know about the doodle. Come to find out he has 5 males all from the same litter. They are 9 months old. He told me he was contacated by a backyard breeder that was no longer in the puppy business. He says he went to pick up the dogs and the conditions were not to bad. what ever that means. He says they all have papers. I mentioned about the Doodle Rescue. He said absolutely not he wanted to hand pick the homes they went to.
He told me he was a trainer..so I questioned him, he asked me to check out his website. Come to find out he has 30 years of experience. Has a TV segment on our local PBS station about training. He has trained several Jacksonville Jaguar players dogs. He told me he wanted the puppies to go to a home perferrably with kids or someone retired. He says the puppies are crate trained, house broken and have been working on training. He says they are all intact.
It "appears" that he is a reputable(sp) guy. My thought is, if he wasnot looking out for the best interest of these dogs, he would sell them to the highest bidder...
So my heart is still breaking but My DH does not want another dog. He loves Bailey and I don't want there to be any tension in my house...I know it sounds bad but after 29 years of marriage I know hoe to read my hubby....
Thoughts?
If this dog came from a real breeder, the first step would be to contact the breeder. Reputable breeders usually have rehome clauses in their contracts.
This sounds weird, I do hope you get to the bottom of it and that this dog ends up in the right home.
It really feels like there may be more to this story. Thanks for taking the time to try and be sure that this Doodle is okay. Please keep us posted.
