UPDATE #2 on " Honey...Dinner will be late....Murphy ate the meatloaf!!!!"

As earlier posted we did get thru the first night with no problems, a little soft but formed stool, but during the next 72 hours we have had vomiting and diarrhea both. The diarrhea started the next day, feb 18th, which was thurs and the vomiting started Sat. night and again a few hours ago. He is going to the vet in the am, is otherwise looking and acting normal. There is no obvious blood in the stool but it is mucousy. Poor baby. Not sure if it's from the meat, or he contacted something from the dog park, or caught bacterial colitis from Marley, who we live with. My guess is the later of the 3. So we'll know more tomorrow. Marley's vet put him on Flagyl and i/d. I will do the Flagyl, but will make my own chicken and rice meals for him.

So, who knows if the meatloaf incident is related, but I will keep you all posted.

We got thru the night ok, he was a bit lazy and laid around a lot before bed,(guess digesting 1 1/2 pds of raw meat will do that to a body) no BM all evening, till about midnight when he hopped off the bed and sat by the bedroom door, (on the towel). Ofcourse I was aware of his every move and we went outside. He had 2 bowel movements (soft, but formed, looked like some meatloaf!!!) and peed and then hopped back into bed and didn't move the rest of the night. Just ate breakfast and is his jolly old self this morning. Now onto training whenever that nose gets within 2 feet of the counters or stove!!!!

Thanks for your posts, glad we could provide a chuckle to some.....(and you know who you are .....April). ;o)

Yup, Dinner was on the stove, meatloaf all made, raw, waiting to go in the oven. Mom went to computer to check on her Doodlekisses post's while oven pre-heated...and, gee....it's awfully quiet in the den....where's Murphy? "Marley, have you seen Murphy?" Worried look from Marley tells me I better go check. Sure enough.....Murphy comes around the corner of the kitchen, hears me gasp and starts crawling on the floor and looking back at me under his eyebrows like'...."Uh-oh, guess that wasn't MY dinner". Then he let's out a horrific BELCH!!!!! Now tell me, how could you NOT laugh at that?

One and a half pounds of lean ground beef, thank goodness there were no onions in it. It really is hard to be mad at him and I'm not, He's a DOG and it's dinner time. What does bother me is that 1) He ALWAYS waits till I say "OK" to go eat and obviously he didn't get the "OK" this time. and 2) He had really bad diarrhea last night ( on the carpet downstairs) and again this morning and I was going to give him rice, baked potato and chicken for dinner to help settle his tummy. ( No pumpkin to be found around here)

Needless to say, he's had a bad day.

I'm putting pennies in a bottle to shake when he comes NEAR the counter! He will learn very quick NOT to put that nose or paws up there again. Little stinkers, all of them. ;o)

I am glad Murphy is feeling good now! Peri is a mini and has just discovered that her paws reach the kitchen counter. We have to keep stuff way away from the edge.....and she's just a mini!

Jane, I'm SURE he thought it was "ALL ABOUT HIM". And I have fed him raw foods before so really I don't blame him. It was just too tempting. And he is a dog!!! Bad mommy not bad dog. He just did what dogs do, hunt and eat! YEs, be thankful Guinness can't reach the counters, but they are so smart and where there's a will there's a way for these guys!!!!

It's times like this when I'm so glad Guinness can't reach the counters. This sounds like a total Doodle feast...all that lean ground beef. Maybe he thought you made it for him.... it's all about our Doodles, right! Sure hope he wasn't sick last night.

No Tums, but did find some Immodium AD, Gave him one. So far he's okay, but there's a big towel by the bedroom door, just in case!!!! He's such a pig and it probably is how much he'd like to eat every night. It was really fresh lean meat, so I'm hoping for the best tonight. It's been about 5 hours now. Thanks all. And Cheryl, I'm so glad there were no bones, that would've scared me too.

I have to laugh, because it brought up a memory for me from a past Thanksgiving...After dinner I had left the left over turkey on the counter as I was cleaning up. All of the sudden I see this black and white blur going past the counter, and in his mouth was a turkey leg...and it was a big one too...I screamed, he ran, and in a matter of seconds he had devoured the whole thing bones and all...I was so scared that he would die from the bones....Well not old cast iron stomache himself, he got sick about 2 hrs later, and I was up all night with him running hin outside because of diarrhea. I gave him Immodium, which helped, but in the morning when I called the vet, for some reason he said to give Pepto instead of Immodium...Don't remember the reason, but he was laughing and accusing me of not giving him any turkey so he helped himself, lol, He told me to bring him in and he checked him, I was afraid of the bones, but he was fine, no bleeding etc...But he was very sick with diarrhea for a day or so, so we gave him rice and chicken, and made sure he drank water...I was spoonng water into him every 10 min, I was afraid he would dehydrate, and he was fine really by the next am, I was a wreck, I stayed up all night with him, and hosed alot of nasty stuff off the lawn and driveway, lol...He was a wonderful dog, an Aussie that lived to be 15 yrs old...I still miss him, and he has been gone 2 yrs now....

You can give him a Tums. Do you have those?

Oh, it does have sodium salicylate. Now what do I do? No Immodium in the house.

Yes April, I was thinking Pepto too. He's such a chow hound he'll eat anything, even if it's PINK!!!! Bob thinks he's always hungry and that's why he couldn't control himself.....I think he's like his mommy, he see's food and wants to eat it, hungry or not!! BTW...he's getting up to 6 cups of homecooked food a day. All really good stuff! How can he still be hungry all the time?
