Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
It seems like I have been posting a lot of blogs about Vern and not so many about Fudge (and I apologize to Fudge), but here goes another one. Last night, my DH commented that Vern is like a big, goofy boy and I think he hit the nail on the head. I came home from grocery shopping and Vern kept trying to inspect the groceries, so I asked my DH to entertain (yes, these are the words I used) him while I put the groceries away. Outside they all went and pretty soon, I could hear Vern barking frantically. When they all came back inside, Vern would not start barking. He ran from each window to door and we could not get him to stop. I tried all my best training techniques, which went something like this, "VERN, STOP BARKING, I CAN'T HEAR THE BIG BANG THEORY." Vern did not care about my TV show.
Apparently, my DH said when they were outside they could hear an animal (probably that stupid groundhog) in the tree eating something or making a weird noise and this spooked Vern. An hour later, he was still worked up, so we all decided to go back to bed. Fudge kept looking at him like "What an idiot." When he got in bed with us, he ran right up to me nose to nose and then plopped down on top of my chest and laid his head under the crook of my chin. He put his paw on my shoulder and I could feel his heart pounding. He stayed like that for almost all of Grey's Anatomy and The Mentalist (we have an exciting life, don't we?), and finally fell asleep. It wasn't until my DH and I fell sound asleep that Vern decided he was brave enough to try and go outside one more time. He went as far as the deck stairs, turned around and came back inside. My brave Vern!!

Vern, it seems we may have to form a support group for chicken doodles, Quincy is afraid of a stuffed snowman, Murphy is afraid of a stuffed doodle and Albus isn't saying what he's afraid of but I think I see a group here.
Poor Vern! He sounds so much like Murphy. Last night there was a "new" limb in the back yard. He barked at it ..refusing to go to that corner of the yard. (Glad it wasn't during The Big Bang Theory.)
I have resorted to sending the cat out with Murphy to protect him.
