Walking Gingy...in the Daylight

Normally I walk Gingy when it's dark...either before the kids are up in the morning, or after they are in bed at night. My husband was on vacation over the Holidays so I got to sleep in (yeah!) and walk the dog during daylight hours. The 1st time, I thought there was something wrong with us and kept checking to see what everyone was staring at. I don't know why it took me so long to figure out it was Gingy they were staring at. There were kids and adults with their faces pressed against the windows smiling and waving at Gingy! I forget sometimes that he looks like a life sized teddy bear...a polar bear to some people. I have people wait in their cars for me to come out of stores, just to ask what type of dog he is! We can never go anywhere with him without being stopped for people to pet him and ask about him. So, really I should have known what everyone was staring at! It's nice that he inspires such friendliness and happiness in people. We all need more of that, I think!

110 lbs?!? Wow!!! I love the name Jedi. Surprised my boys didn't want that. Gingy is a big scaredy cat too. It was tough at first walking him because he was so scared of everything! He's better now, but he still won't stay outside, even with us, once it's dark. Really, not much of protection, other than the initial bark maybe!

I have had the same look from people. Our boy Jedi looks like a polar bear or a giganto teddy bear. You'd think though with a name like Jedi you would be tough and ferousious but no... he is scared of every thing! And he is about 110 pounds! He is scared of our pet hedgehog. People always do that to us to. "What a cute doggie!" or "What type of dog is he?" or "AWWWWWWWWWWWW OH MY GOD IS SO PRECIOUS!"

That's amazing that Lowes lets dogs in the store. I wish more stores were like that around here! I can imagine that they attract a crowd. I would love to get Gingy into therapy work because I've said he would bring joy to everyone he worked with. I just do not have the time at this point in our lives. Maybe once the kids are older...or with our next Doodle. That's wonderful that you are getting your dogs into therapy work. Can't wait to hear stories about it and see pictures! With the elderly? Sick children? Do you know what type of therapy they will be doing?

I find that unbelievable that our dogs cause that type of reaction in people! It's so great! Gingy is fantastic about meeting people too. I never realized how people would react to Gingy...or Doodles. My neighbour recently adopted one and she's getting the same reaction! They are just so friendly!

Holly is a people magnet. I love all the attention that she gets. Everyone seems to love her teddy-bear look. She obviously loves people also and is very good when meeting strangers. She attracts attention from men, women and kids alike. I was shooting some pictures along a highway in Utah and my wife, Judy, had Holly on a leash walking her. A lady, driving by, stopped her car to ask what kind of dog Holly was.

It really is great. I'm still getting used to it! Although I should be - I'm a bit of a circus wherever I go - I have 3 young boys and now with Gingy...it can be a bit of a comedy act trying to get everyone going in the same direction (minus Gingy - he heels very obediently!). I love sharing about Gingy...he's such a great dog! And I know from reading various sites, including this one, that he is very typical of the Doodle breed. I just want everyone to have one and experience their happiness, joy, love. A neighbour recently adopted a Doodle and I have given out my breeders name and number to about 5 other people waiting for "the right time".

Your dogs are precious! It must be quite comical seeing them all play together!

Isn't it great!? I love that about walking my Rosco too! Instant connections with others =)
Thule isn't as teddy bear looking so usually, even if I walk them together, they assume she's NOT what Rosco is.
