About Me:
I am a full-time mother of 3 young, active boys. We're an on-the-go family who enjoy anything outdoor.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Gingy is 15 months old and is a male apricot Doodle. We adopted him Dec 27, 2007 from a wonderful breeder - KingsDoodles. Right from the start he fit right in with our boisterous family - I have 3 boys - 8, 6, and 3. Gingy has different relationships with each of them and with my husband and I. He's such a sweetheart of a dog! He's so gentle, obedient, good-natured, always ready to play. He's about 60lbs and I'm not sure how much heavier he'll get. His father is a large standard poodle so we'll see.

Gingy gets him name from the Gingerbread Man (aka Gingy) on Shrek. My kids are big fans. Poor guy, always gets called Ginger and a girl! He is beautiful!

Other than Gingy, we have an orange tabby cat, Gordie. They aren't the best of friends...yet. Much to Gingy's chagrin. We also have an aquatic frog and numerous fish in our tank. My boys would have lizards, turtles, snakes, hedgehogs and anything else with or without fur if I would let them.

Anyway, I could go on forever about Gingy and how wonderful the Doodle breed is....but I won't....at the moment!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
We wanted and needed a large dog, that doesn't shed. I did some research on-line and found the Doodle. Loved the look and people's comments about their intelligence, how family oriented they are so we got one. Best decision ever!
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Beach, camping, playing fetch, swimming, cuddling, walking - he goes everywhere with us! And I mean everywhere!
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Daily - me, every 3-4 months - The Doggie Style - Jill
Favorite Doodle Products?
Cowboy Magic, matte comb, combs, ball thrower!

Mats Anyone?!

Posted on January 5, 2009 at 4:45pm 2 Comments

I used to wonder what people were talking about when they asked me if Gingy matted? Matted? I only need to brush him maybe once a week! Never any mats, never any problems. Until his big boy fur came in! Wow was I unprepared for that! In a matter of a week, the poor thing had a major matting problem. So on-line I went and found DoodleKisses. I found some very helpful information on how to brush him, the proper brushes and combs that I need and a recommendation to use Cowboy Magic. I wasn't able… Continue

Walking Gingy...in the Daylight

Posted on January 4, 2009 at 5:57am 7 Comments

Normally I walk Gingy when it's dark...either before the kids are up in the morning, or after they are in bed at night. My husband was on vacation over the Holidays so I got to sleep in (yeah!) and walk the dog during daylight hours. The 1st time, I thought there was something wrong with us and kept checking to see what everyone was staring at. I don't know why it took me so long to figure out it was Gingy they were staring at. There were kids and adults with their faces pressed against the… Continue

Hi Jen,
Well we're finally in PEI! It took us a little longer to get up here because we had to stay in FL because my husband has some health issues that had to be attended to before leaving....but from what I could see, the weather in June wasn't all that great here, so we're not too upset. Duffy is LOVING his wide open spaces and never tires of racing around the yard and watching beach-goers climbing over the dune. He loves the beach too!
You mentioned a trainer in your last comment to me, could you give me some additional info. I'd love to take Duffy for some "formal" training. We've been working with him ourselves, but I think he's ready for more! I'll also try the place in Summerside for supplies. Are you at your place in Twin Shores now? Maybe we could meet on the beach. We have a local phone 836-1212 if you would prefer to call. Hope to hear from you soon.
Nancy - down the Penderosa Rd.

Hi Jen,
I was reading your reply to Cowboy Magic in the review section and saw that you found it in a spray bottle. Did you buy it online? If so, where? I have been looking for it without any luck. Thanks.

H back! sorry it's been awhile, I guess the holidays and house guests won my time! We pick up Duffy next week! I can't believe it's already time....it seems like we've been waiting forever. We'll be coming up to Darnley in June so hopefully we'll see each other on the beach. (I'll be the other lady with the cute dog...imagine what kind of attention we'll attract with two doodles!) Happy winter, stay warm. Nancy

Murphy is about 11 months old now and am assuming he won't grow too much more in height, maybe a few pounds in weight over the next year. Today I noticed while brushing him that he seemed a little thinner then usual so maybe he is growing and getting a little taller (still eating as much). He was about 9months old in photos. I read your post and you mentioned Gingy getting older and then the fur matting. What type of fur does Gingy have? I read somewhere that they can have hair, fleece , wool or/and a combination of all three, some more prone to matting then others possibly? Murphy has combination wool and ?hair but I tend to think he still has puppy coat and adult hair is growing in, but not sure if it is growing as wool of hair or fleece. He doesn't currently have any mats but I have brushed out a few very small mats on his belly.

DH stands for Dear Husband I believe. On the very first page Adina has all of the acronyms explained. It's on the left side kind of near the bottom. I had to look at that before I knew what all of these acronyms were for. It can be very confusing!

Thanks, Fenway was originally apricot/cream, but she looks like the color of a pair of khaki pants now. We love her to pieces.

Beautiful goldendoodle. Gingy is too cute and looks so funny. I bet you, your husband, and the boys have a tone of fun with him.

Hi Jen,
Murphy is about 64-68lbs currently. He probably weighed about 56-61lbs when he was 9 months old. It is always very hard to weigh him because he is afraid of getting on scales. He is a lot of fur and fairly slender. I am sure he will put on a few extra pounds over the next year. How much does gingy weigh? kristine
