Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Since joining DK I have heard people talking about shopping at Petsmart and their grooming experiences and training classes, much of it on the negative side . Well Petsmart has arrived in Newfoundland and I eagerly looked forward to it's opening. It's finally open and today Quincy and I went for our first visit, first stop, shampoo. A person, who looked like she was probably the manager asked if she could help. I told her I was looking for an anti itch shampoo because Quincy had been doing a bit of scratching, "oh yes", she says " doodles are known for that". Quincy was a big hit and we were surrounded by several people gushing over how cute and well behaved he was, "he's so calm" someone said, "doodles are usually so hyper" says the person who looked like the manager. WTD, I've visited every petstore in this city and this is the very first time I have been greeted by such comments. On a positive note, they do have some really nice beds, we got some Blueberry Bed Head shampoo, some Zukes edible dental chews and some rubber Chuck it Balls. I am going to check our their training classes but you can bet if the person who looks like the manager is teaching them, count me out. The rest of the staff were super friendly and helpful and it's going to be a good place to go on rainy days, I think I'll just leave my wallet at home. Welcome to Petsmart!!!

We love to go to Petsmart to get the dogs out of the house and Myla gets brushed out there, I think it depends on the location. We had 2 training classes there with pretty good trainers but they have since gone, I will not let my DH enroll them at that location with the new trainers. YIKES! SIT SIT SIT SIT!!!! We were told say it once and make it happen this trainer is like a broken record, sometimes we just go there to laugh at her and feel sorry for the people who paid for the class! The dogs love it there, everyone knows them, they are the dogs that walk and shop on there 2 back legs-they also know where the treats are at the register and they literally stand up in line for them! Sometimes the little hams can get more than one out of them! So keep going and let Quincy live it up! Maybe our PetSmart sent out an APB for hyper doodles because of ours-sorry for the bad rap!

I swear, Fudge and Vern, have never been to that Petsmart, so I don't know where she got the hyper doodle idea....LOL!  I like Petsmart, even though the dog trainer up there, referred to Vern as "The Blonde". Quincy will make them LOVE doodles.

I think Pet Smarts vary from location - some seem to be ok from what I hear, but I have never been to one I like. However, I work at a small chain (8 stores) where the husband/wife/(and now)son team have built the business up over 37 years. A HUGE emphasis is put on us to be helpful and friendly, and they constantly send us to training seminars.

I hope the staff stay helpful and friendly - remember, they just opened and havent had time to get sick of their jobs yet lol

We love Petsmart. The employees are super nice to us and they all know and love Darwin. It's so refreshing, as we've encountered some doodle haters at other pet stores. :-) Guess it's just luck of the draw.

I think the Petsmart experience really depends on the staff and whoever runs that particular store. We have two in our area, one of them is very friendly and always stocked with good stuff. The other one always looks picked over and the staff act like they don't even know what an animal is!

I was just at both of our petsmarts yesterday-looking for a crate-and I ended up getting the puppy packet they have. It's 19.99 but you get free microchipping, a free training, free grooming, one free vet check-up (though I think I would just prefer to use my own vet), one free doggie day care day, and a ton of coupons for free food and such. I didn't think it was a bad deal, considering I was getting ready to pay $25 next week for a microchip...however, after I purchased it, I went back to the training area to talk to one of the trainers about my free class and she was pretty much clueless...I don't know if I'll actually use that coupon or not, if I do, it won't be for the training but just so my Molly can socialize.

We are also fans of petsmart. Callie did her basic obedience class there - lots of great distractions to train through! We even use their daycare from time time (you can do a half-day there and it's all indoor and air conditioned, which is good for a furry black doodle in the summer heat of Atlanta!). I've never had a negative experience with the staff (fortunately) and they all just love Callie.

It is a great place to have a walk through for training purposes. I do not to buy anything at Pet Smart or Pet Supplies Plus near me because I feel like they have a bunch of no nothings running the place, basically PFK's (pimply face kids). I actually have a Pet Supplies Plus a 1/2 mile down the street that I do not go into because of attitude by the manager.

All that being said some locations are great with wonderful staff, my daughter loves her PSP and so do I.

If anyone ever said anything negative about my Daisy the corporation would hear from me. We have power behind us with DK and the CEO's need to know that.

I find Petco and Petsmart great places for training with the Doods...plus they have some pretty good toys!

So happy for you both - Petsmart and PetCo are both near to us and of course it is a great place to take our doodles for lots of attention and TOYS!  Enjoy it.

I am a Petsmart fan! Charlie had a wonderful groomer there, and after this groomer had moved on, her co-woker has been taking great care of Charlie... As far as grooming is concern, I am very happy with what they do with their price!!

In the other hand, I would not go to the training classes there... not just Petsmart... But I just think that training classes are better of with specialist.... I like their displays as well. I think the store itself is brighter than Petco...?
