We were having a great Mother's Day and then it happened. My son was playing with Phoebe on her leash ( my oldest had the leash in his hands) and she got over-excited, jumped and nipped him millimeters from his eye. Of course, my parents were watching them as I had just cut my hand and needed to wash it inside. I thought I was going to pass out. My husband was at the cell phone store--his phone disconnected, of course--so it took a while to reach him. We raced our son to the ER and they glued--plastic surgeon felt he would have less scarring with this over stitches--the wound together. My son was amazing through it all--I, on the other hand, was not! Thankfully, there seems to be no residual animosity or fear on my son's part toward Phoebe (at least not yet anyway) as I kept explaining to him how she is just a puppy--despite her size!--and that she did not know better. She just wanted to play. Certainly not the end to the day that I had anticipated but, judging from the wound's proximity to my son's eye, it could have been so much worse!

My son's eye looks great now though he will always have a small scar there. The 'best' part is that he has no fear of Phoebe which I was terrified about. Of course, my parents were still visiting and I thought I would need to bring my Dad to the cardiac wing of the hospital. I think he is finally getting over the scare!

Oh, no! Sorry to hear it! It could have easily have happened in our house. Those puppies can jump so high! Fozzy still gets nippy with the boys when he gets excited. I hope all is well!

Poor little boy, so great that he didn't take away fear of Phoebe from the incident. Glad he's okay!

My son is a pre-schooler and, thankfully, the wound looks really good this morning. He does not want to hang around with Phoebe but i know that is to be expected right now. He does not seem fearful of her, just that he does not want to be bothered and who could blame him. I am sure he will be the center of attention at school today!

Wow! I'm glad he is okay and not scared of Phoebe! I'm sure pheobe had no idea what was going on! It's true, they grow so fast that they forget what size they really are! Puppy brain on a big body! (Like teenagers!) :-) Glad it turned out alright. How old is your son? He'll have a fun story to tell in school on monday.

Oh my! Good thing we are all so understanding these days! I can picture myself in the same situation as I have young ones that Abby gets excited with. You know what my old school father-in-law would say if it he was watching: "That dog has to go!". (No grey areas with him - lol) Glad your son is OK and understanding.

I'm glad your son is OK. They - puppies- are just getting bigger and bigger so quickly, and height they can reach, and jump is steady changing! I hope the wound will heal nicely for him.

Oh my, that is really too bad. I hope your son is OK and that he has no fear after this incident. You are right, it could have been worse but it wasn't so take a deep breath and relax.
