What's up Rosco? Is Timmy in the Wall?

This week for two nights in a row Rosco developed an obsession with the top of our bookshelf which is right next to the couch we sit on to watch TV. I don't know what he thought was up there but he kept staring and whining, occasionally a little bark.

I looked and there were NO toys up there (I have in the past put a ball or squeaky toy on top when I was sick of him making noise or bugging me by losing it under the couch, but not recently). NOTHING on top that would have interested him at all. But he kept acting restless and staring up and whining.

So one by one I removed each item and let him sniff it. Candle holder with candle, random things we were too lazy to put in their proper place, and a painting. He sniffed each one curiously, but nothing satisfied him. So I just told him to cut it out and ignored him.

The next night...same thing!

What's up Rosco? Is there mold in our wall? Is there a rodent in the wall? Is Timmy in the Well...er...Wall?

So Clark brilliantly suggested a temporary suspension of the 'no-dogs-on-furniture' policy for a good cause: Our Sanity.
I brought out a towel, laid it on the sofa cushion and over the arm rest and invited Rosco up...he accepted graciously, climbed on, plopped his front paws on the arm rest and reached up as far as he could sniffing every inch that he could reach of the mysterious bookshelf top.

Fully satisfied that he had completed his mission, he jumped off the couch and the whining is now cured.

Oh Adina,
That story is precious. My dad is always talking with his newfie and when Duke speaks back at him, he comments and talks to him and one of his favorite sayings is "what is it Duke, is Timmie in the well?" it's even funnier now knowing you had used that saying. Thanks for sharing, Eva

You may have been kidding, Barb, but I think you hit the nail on the had. I think he saw some bunnies up there ;-)

We joke that we have a ghost in our house, we call him 'the chief' (there are rumours that our neighborhood was built on an indian burial ground. Our first dog (Hartley) would run into the living room, sit in the middle of the room and bark and stare at nothing there in the middle of the room. The new puppy (Chase) would have episodes of being terrified of being in the room and would run into the kitchen, tail between legs, and hide. If we walked through the living room, he would come with us and then run back to the kitchen again. It happens less often now, but still happens. We think they are just getting used to the ghost!!

Maybe he's helping "child proof" the house for you. Now you can rest assured that that spot is free of dangerous stuff. Of course, if future baby climbs up there to check, that could be a problem!!

Too funny. Timmy in the well..... er wall. DH always says this and tonight it just struck me as the funniest thing. In our old house our cats would stare for hours at a wall in the bathroom. It was the most boring wall. We decided they were looking at a ghost cat. We named him Cat59. . This went on for several years. A neighbor told us that in the late 1950's an old man and his grandsons built a basement under this house and filled it in because there were 50 cats living under the crawl space. Eww ironic. Gave me the chills. So you never know... Roscoe just may be seeing Timmy and you can't.

I think perhaps he HOPED there a toy up there just for him (since house guest Amaya was hogging all his toys) since he just completely lost interest after his investigation.

Well you know Adina, dogs can sense ghosts and spirits that humans cannot, LOL
