It seems that Boomer is getting more frail everyday, but he is still smiling when we luv him up! A while ago, I asked my vet if she could come to our home when it was time. She said she would. She said she has a friend who put down her dog and home, and now regrets it because every time she goes into that room, all she can think about is losing him there. I am wondering what other people's experiences have been?

We had our 13 year old german shepherd mix put to sleep at the vet's (we had him from 13 weeks old) and every time I drove by there for years I would start to get tears in my eyes. Like the others said, I think you will remember things about Boomer everywhere you go, but I think having him put to sleep at home would be a comfort to both him and you. It is a sad, hard time, but he has had a good life with lots of loving from both sides.

Our GR was put down at the vet, but we didn't know for sure when we took her in that it was going to be done. Three years later, when we took Gus and Molly to the vet for their first checkup, it was in the same room in which Katie was put down. I cried. Every time I go to Costco (every week), I think of our Artie, who died at the emergency vet that is located across the road from Costco. They are both buried in our back yard (we have 20 acres, so it's okay); so I think of them often anyway. I'm sure you will think of Boomer forever too. My advice: if you think you can handle the daily reminder of his last moments being at home, it would be a wonderful gift to Boomer. If not, that's okay too. I don't think I could have handled it - everyone is different. I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this. My heart goes out to you.

My Rottie Holly had a massive heart attack in my bedroom, she than got up and stumbled into the bathroom downstairs and lied on the floor till I could get help to get her to the Vet and have her put down. As we arrived at the Vet it was to late for anything and Holly was two minutes away from leaving me. They got her in an emergency room and wanted to do CPR on her, and I told them No...let her go. She was 10 1/2 and lived a good life from the time I rescued her at 7 1/2 months old. As she took her last breath it was again one of the hardest things I had to go through. When I got back home, I took her quilt and burned it, and yes there are times to this day that I remember her in the bedroom or bathroom. I strongly believe you should stay with your pet till they are gone, but wether or not to do it in your home is your choice and what you feel you can deal with. Some will say it's just a pet...but most feel pets are part of the family and you treat them the same. I'm not so sure I would want a family member dying at home, it's hard enough seeing them in hospitals. Sorry to hear about Boomer and prayers for you all.
