Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So, Monday is over, and I still haven't heard a word from the Shelter about MY Izzy. I've been obsessing all day....carrying the Blackberry around the house so I would know the minute the email came in. Her bed is sitting here empty, and the hot pink collar has no beautiful little girl attached. Her empty dish is sitting in the closet...no home cooked food. Of course, my imagination is taking over, and I'm envisioning Guinness and Izzy running and playing and cuddling up together. I know, but it's a vision, so it doesn't have to be realistic. I've started to wonder what she'll be like. Guinness is such a "guy". He just acts like a male. I wonder if she'll act like a little girl. In the past we had two males (a Golden and a Lab), and they were totally "guy's guys". They were rough and tough....could eat anything and were happiest when they had rolled in some sort of manure. They hated baths or grooming of any kind. Then we got our Dalmatian, and she was a little lady. There was nothing rough and tough about her. Yes, my imagination is totally stereotyping which is completely not my style. I'm not sure where that is coming from. Anyway, I've been thinking about gender characteristic differences among our dogs. I wonder....

Still no news? Oh, these poor dogs!! At least she is in a foster, but gosh, how horrible to have to wonder and not know. I keep thinking about it and you. How did you find Izzy? The website didn't seem real organized, I tried to look Izzy up.

Contact the shelter and tell them you forgot to put your character references down. Then give us their e-mail address and a case number. Then....... They will be so inundated with our positive and numerous references, they will have to choose you to be Izzy's new mom.

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Izzy came to live with you on March 17th...St Patrick's Day!!!! (I know that is a little more than two weeks though)

I got a response to my Facebook posting from the Shelter. Basically they said it takes one - two weeks to process, and it really depends on how many applications they get for a particular dog. So, I guess that means I just have to be patient....not one of my greatest strengths.

First of all, thanks to everyone who has left me messages with well wishes as we go down this "rescue" path with Izzy and wondering about the status of where we are. I have still not heard a word, even after my third follow-up yesterday. I have been doing some research on this rescue...Double Dog Rescue. It appears they are a very large operation. They have locations (foster homes) in the South and throughout New England. They work with local area shelters. I had assumed that Izzy was local, because the shelter name was local. That may not be the case at all. She could be anywhere. There are a number of people who posted online about their experiences with Double Dog, and they are all positive except one. In most cases, you get the dog "sight unseen". There was one case where the person agreed to a particular dog and that is when it was actually transported from a farm in TN where there were 23 other dogs. As it turns out, the dog was wonderful and they are very happy. Izzy may have had a much more difficult experience than I originally thought. I was assuming from the wording on her post that she was surrendered by a local mother and daughter because they didn't want to pay for grooming. If she was in one of these TN high kill shelters (and I believe she was), she has probably experienced some significant trauma. I did put a comment on the Facebook site this morning asking for info/status. Let's see if that brings something. It's a public forum and I'm sure they would not want to appear unresponsive.

I'm glad I just saw your forum discussion and this blog post because the suspense is already killing me. If I'd known about it from the begining it really would be driving me nuts!!! I can't believe you haven't heard anything yet. We'll be keeping our fingers and paws crossed too! Can't wait to hear news, good news that is!
