DH is working from home today so I thought I would take the opportunity to run some errands and do some shopping, leaving Rooney in his dad's trusty care.  I get home and can clearly hear that DH is on a conference call with the Chinese and as I walk into entry way I see new poop bags strewn about the floor, Rooney has taken them out of the basket by the front door.  As he has now heard me come in the door, Rooney comes running all tail a wagging and with a poop bag in his mouth.  So now I'm thinking was he just bored and playing with the bags or does he have to go poo and he is trying to tell me (as who knows how long DH had been on that call).  Once before he had taken a poop bag in his mouth and then out we went and he pooped but I really figured that was dumb luck.  Not one to chance it - we leashed up and headed out the door and I'll be a monkey's uncle if the little bugger didn't go poop.  I am not kidding!  Could he honestly be that smart?  I will admit that when he is pooing, I rustle the poo bag, hoping that it becomes a trigger - could he have learned to associate the bag to the pooping?  Usually when he needs to go out he will lick your feet or leg, this is just crazy to think he has figured this out!  Anyone else train their dog not to the bells but to the bag?  LOL.

Rooney is the smartest!  I don't clean up after each poo (just not gonna happen at 6AM) and I never remember to take a poo bag out in the back yard with me.  So, Rua doesn't associate poo to rustle bag sound and I'll have to stick to bells.  Besides, I am pretty darn sure that if I left a basket full of poo bags within her reach, they would be all over the place and most likely punctured!  And I wouldn't want to try to pick up poo with them then. LOL

Dogs are incredibly smart.  My Maltese terrier brings me his empty bowl and drops it at my feet when he wants food.  My Cat Banjo opens the fridge by wedging his paws between the seal when he is looking for food and turns on the kitchen tap when he wants fresh water.  He also taps on the letter box (we don't have a cat flap) when he wants us to let him in.

I am sure Rooney is that smart, no doubt about it.

Rooney is clearly a combination of looks and brains! I do think he knows what those bags are for!

JD knows that when I get some poop bags, he's going for a walk, but I doubt he knows why the bags are going, too.

Tonight, we went to Target and I waited in the car with the Doodles. Fudge went back in the back and pushed at her water dish which was empty, and then came up to the front and pawed at the water bottle in the drink holder. She wanted some water and was letting me know. Doods are smart!!

I don't doubt for a second that Rooney knows what those little bags mean!
