Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was browsing through the ad listings on KSL and saw that a Goldendoodle puppy was listed for free. The man said he had bred a litter, but one of the pups has seizures so he can't sell him. Apparently he should grow out of these seizures, but nobody was interested in him anyways. He said he would have to put him in a shelter or kennel somewhere because they are leaving town on Dec. 26th. I was a little bit afraid that someone would see "FREE" and jump right into it before they realized how much responsibility a puppy, especially one with seizures was. I contacted him and told him about the DRC, and told him I would pick him up on the 26th until he could be taken to the Doodle Rescue collective. He sounded relieved and quickly agreed, so I gave him my information...

So, what is the proper course of action now? I looked on the Doodle Rescue Collective site and didn't find a number to call or anything... The problem is that I work and live in an apartment, and I can't really keep him for an extended amount of time, although I am willing to transport anywhere to get him to a representative. Is there someone I can contact that I could possibly transport him to? I hope I didn't overstep my bounds... but I was truly worried he wouldn't go to a home that was prepared for the responsibility... help?

Camilla - thank goodness there are people like you and the DRC out there! In my head, I've named this little doodle "Barney". I have NO idea why.
Oh my gosh that is the most wonderful thing you are doing!! He is so cute - I hope he finds a permanent home really soon!
God bless you.....
Bless you Camilla......
OMG! I just got on the internet for the first time all day! Was on the road from NJ to Pittsburgh at 5am and just got back to Marissa's from Christmas dinner at the Tait's. I just read read about this little Guy. What a "breeder"! Going to put him in a shelter because he was going away!!! OMG! What holiday spirit - not a perfect doodle so he has to go to a shelter? Obviously didn't look to hard for some resuce group to take him!
Is this Guy a breeder or just someone who had a litter? If he is a
breeder I hope you post his name so no one will even think about getting a puppy from him. He obviously does not about his dogs! This is my opinion but it comes straight from my heart.
I guess I am being overly sensative. I spent today watching Mickey's try so hard to overcome his fear of anyone outside his people. It just breaks my heart to see him try so hard to get past his baggage and then to read that this Guy was just going to give this gorgeous puppy away because it was inconvenient to have him since he has medical issues!!! I am so damned angry and very grateful that he is safe with someone who has a huge heart!!! Thank you for jumping in and saving this little man!

THANK YOU for actually getting involved and helping.
Camilla, you are an angel from above. What a Christmas present to this beautiful pup. May God bless you in many ways. Thank you for saving this precious little guy.
I am so touched by your story, thank you for your kind heart and may the blessings you have brought to this little guy come back to you abundantly. A Christmas miracle indeed!

And now if I may? This would be a perfect case for early spay & neuter, before a dog leaves a breeder. I say this not to the little dood, but to the purported 'breeder'. I am assuming this was an individual who decided to try his hand at breeding, not one of reputable practice or they never would have taken such action. Choosing to breed any dog is not for the faint of heart or those of little responsibility, sooner or later tragedy is bound to manifest in some manner and as a breeder one must be prepared to sacrifice whatever is necessary to not dump a puppy ~ makes me sick.
AMEN!!!!! Thanks Dianne for posting this,
From what I can tell, this guy is a BYB. He told me that he health tested his dogs, and nothing would indicate his dog would have seizures. But I got the idea from him that this was his first Goldendoodle litter. The good thing is that he did already neuter the pup, to make sure he wouldn't be bred from. He seems to be a nice guy who really wants him to find a nice home... I think he is just not a very good breeder. Perhaps someone who wants to try their hand at it but doesn't want to deal with the responsibility of a sick puppy. We are picking him up tomorrow... I am so glad he won't be out in the cold another night! (he keeps them outside) Thanks for all your encouragement, I am really nervous so it helps me a lot to have so much support. I am so excited though, I hope we find him a great home.
Isn't it too cold in Utah to have the dogs out at night?
In my opinion, it is too cold to have them outside right now. I see him as the kind of guy that keeps his dogs out in kennels with straw to keep them warm. I wouldn't be surprised if he owns other animals like cows or sheep and keeps them near the rest of the animals. I am sure he wouldn't let them freeze to death, but I know they are outdoor kennels and I don't think they could possibly be comfortable with how cold it is right now. Plus, I think puppies do best when raised in the home with plenty of human interaction!
