I think he wants to play and have you chase him. Bet you follow him around to get the leash on and now it's a game. They're no dummies, smart little puppies. Cute name, by the way. He'll outgrow it, mine has grown up so much since turning 12 mos. she's now 18 mos. and still playful, but doesn't get in the trash or get our shoes and socks etc. Wonderful Dogs!
Thanks, I thought maybe he was scared or something, but he does like to turn everything into a game! Was she a fan of socks? That's another problem. He loves socks sooooooooo much!!!! By the way your puppy is absolutely adorable!!!
He'll grow out of it. He is just playing games. Cassie was taught to ring bells by the door to go out. Worked great except now if she's bored she'll ring the bells just to get someone up. She's taught us well "ring the bells and Mom or Dad get up" . Then she walks away and gets a toy or just gets in our chair. They are very good at getting what they want...... and so adorable, everything is a game !
Hahaha, Samson does that sometimes. I'm not sure why, guess he just wants to play. He is 8 months old, and he does have to go out, but sometimes, I will grab the leash, and he will run around, like he wants me to chase him....and I'll be like, "Samson, I know you have to pee...let's go~". It's funny.
Tori STILL does this and she'll be 2 in March! Don't know why.. I think she's acting like a little kid who has to go so badly, but doesn't want to stop when they're doing. If she continues for a while after I just stand there, then I just leave her be for a while and sooner or later, she'll go out.
Seems he is learning how to play games. Though, I personally wouldn't turn it into a game, because you may end up having problems later training wise. He might see his lead and think its game time a run.

Zoe is a bell ringer and sometimes she will just charge the door and ring the bells. I always tell her just a minute so she knows I heard. If she keeps on I know she has to go out. If she loses interest, she was just playing. If she has to go NOW, she brings the bells to me.

Good luck and keep us posted
Our Sophie has recently started something similar. She will be 2 in March. She has a little whine type noise she does when she wants to go out. She will go to the door and do this whine, and when I come with the leash she backs up because you must open the door before you can put the leash on her (her rules). Think she wants to be sure she is getting to go outside 1st. Then she barks at me like a crazy dog when I tell her to come on let's go. I just stand at the door, and tell her to come. She eventually stops barking, and walks up to me. But before she will sit for her collar, she has to first stretch then she will sit! It is almost like a ritual. She was trying to use the whine to just get a treat, because there is a treat jar by the door for when they come inside from potty, but I quickly put a stop to that. Now, if she whines, she goes out.
I would avoid chasing him or going after him, as he might be treating it as a game. Perhaps you could bring a tasty treat with you, and when you approach him with the leash, offer him the treat, so he wants to stay rather than get you to chase him.
thanks for the advice, hadn't thought of the treat I'll give it a try!
Thanks for all the great ideas and advice. It's also nice to know I'm not alone!!!
You can teach him to sit at the door in order for him to be leashed. Charlie gets excited and runs around sometimes, too. But she cannot get leashed unless she settle down and sit.
